Exciting Event Recap! 🌟 Last week, Orcan Energy had the pleasure of participating in the Reflex Expertentalk, which took place on July 16-17, 2024. Our Head of Industry & New Business Markus Lintl and team member Gizem Celebi, represented us at this insightful event focused on district heating. Markus delivered an engaging presentation titled “Make the Most of Your Heat” - showcasing innovative ways to utilize excess heat from district heating networks to generate #CleanElectricity, particularly during the summer months. Born in Germany 🇩🇪 ... and off to the USA 🇺🇸   Take a look at two brand new Orcan Energy modules leaving our production facility in Kiel a few days ago. They are now sailing across the seas from northern Germany to California, where they will arrive in mid-August. 🌴   We're delighted with the flourishing US business and even more pleased that we can smoothly fulfill the demand from our newly established production site. 🙌   #GermanyToUSA #HeatToPower #WasteHeatRecovery

If the global recovery waste heat potential is so huge – why don’t we see much more waste heat recovery applications? 🤔 Here’s another reason: The technology for waste heat recovery was less adaptable in the past and often unable to solve the following problems: 👉 Temperature levels were often too low to effectively utilize waste heat. 👉 Waste heat tends to be generated not just at one point but at multiple points in the production process. 👉 There often is a lack of heat sinks where waste heat can be directly used. Times have changed! Technology is now ready! 🙌 With Orcan’s modular technology, it’s possible to utilize waste heat even at low energy levels. The modularity of the technology makes it possible to install our heat-to-power modules exactly where the waste heat is generated. ⚡️ The waste heat is converted into electricity, meaning that no heat sink is needed.  💶 Generated electricity is cheaper than taking the electricity from the grid, leading to significant cost savings. If the global recovery waste heat potential is so huge – why does it remain largely unused? 🤔 Here’s a first reason: In the past, incentives to utilize waste heat were not as compelling as they are today. 👉 Over the past decade, very low prices of gas, electricity, and CO2 reduced the incentive to seek out greener and more cost-effective electricity options. 👉 Immediate pressure to act on decarbonization targets was lacking, causing companies to deprioritize energy efficiency in favor of projects directly related to their core processes. Times have changed! 💰 Heat has become expensive for much of the world 📈 Today, incentives are higher, and technological advancements have made waste heat recovery more attractive than ever. ☝️ Political pressure has also increased. For example, in Germany, the Energy Efficiency Act obliges industrial companies to use waste heat. For data centers, a quota of at least 10% waste heat recovery is mandatory from 2026 and 20% from 2028. Now is the time for industrial companies to capture the potential of waste heat recovery, save enormous amounts of energy, reduce scope 2 emissions by generating carbon-free electricity and costs and stay competitive. Ramón supports all HR-related tasks, including managing our HR software, talent acquisition, onboarding new employees and contributing to our Kiel site as well.
