The recent #Falcon9 🚀 upper-stage failure, resulting in the loss of 20 #Starlink satellites, highlights the unpredictable nature of space missions. From rocket anomalies to system failures, many variables can impact a #mission. While this incident makes clear that not all things are in the operators' hands, the resulting delay serves as an opportunity for all operators to further fine-tune their preparations for #LEOP. It's crucial to focus on controlling the elements within our reach to mitigate risks and enhance mission success. 📡📍"Where is my spacecraft?" Identify your #spacecraft within the released batch and establish first contact By using dedicated observation data, you can reduce the time to first orbit observation (#TLE, #OEM) down to a few hours. How? Drop us a request 👉https://lnkd.in/d5X6iXCc 🛰️ Prepare and execute the first necessary #maneuvers safely 🎯 Maneuver into your target #orbit with the highest certainty Let's learn, adapt, and ensure robust preparations for the future.

🚀 This week, we witnessed the successful launch of Ariane 6. While we celebrate this amazing milestone, our #LEOP team took a closer look to analyze the stranded upper stage of Ariane-6. Here are some conclusions drawn on its residency in #LEO. 👉The first plot provides a reentry forecast for the upper stage of Ariane 6. 🗓️Considering the worst case solar cycle, its reentry is expected to happen not earlier than in 2051, that's 27 years! Even in the best case scenario, the upper stage will still remain for 12 years in orbit. 💥 Consequences are a substantial increase in the risk of collisions with #spacedebris leading to even more #fragmentation, and operational overhead for operators. It is for this reason that reentry guidelines are so stringent regarding orbit lifetime. 🛰️ How can we help you mitigate the associate risk of such events? 👉 long-term mission assessment with environmental analyses pre- and post-launch 👉 risk monitoring and collision avoidance 👉 maneuver coordination

While counting down the hours before the #Ariane6 launch, we decided to look back and reflect on previous LEOPs 🚀🛰️ 👉 What happens when #satellites separate from the #upperstage? Well, in #Rideshares, as we saw in Friday’s post, they get released in batches, very close to each other. Then, the #groundstation team awaits the first signal to be able to check the health status of their satellite and start commissioning. 📡 What do these two things have in common? The need for very accurate, real-time tracking. 👇 Read all about it in our latest #blogpost. When multiple satellites are launched together, like in #Rideshare missions, they may be inserted into nearly identical #orbits. It can take days for them to drift apart after the insertion into the initial orbit. Let’s check out the relative angular distance in the argument of the latitude of #satellites from the #SpaceX #Transporter 10 launch👇. 🛰️ Having that many objects with crossing paths in proximity makes track correlation and object identification 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘺 challenging. Conventional correlation methods struggle with this scenario. By using advanced correlation methods, we can ensure fast and reliable 🔭 object identification and 🛰️ orbit determination during the critical phase immediately after #launch. This is crucial for 📡 achieving contact with the satellites, 🦺 maintaining space safety, 😎 and for operational efficiency. With two large launches coming up this month, things will get pretty busy. Best of luck to all #Ariane6 launchers, and in case you need a hand, don't hesitate to give us a nudge 😎 Christopher Kebschull and the rest of the #LEOP Support team will keep an eye out on Tuesday. 💥 Last Wednesday's fragmentation incident of the Russian #satellite RESURS-P1 and the 100 debris created by it have made all the news by now. Even though we are still uncertain of what caused this fragmentation in the first place, we ran some numbers based on what we do know and wrote down some thoughts about what it means for #spacedebris management. 👉 The nominal re-entry of a drifting RESURS-P1 would have been end-2024/beginning-2025, as you can see in the first graph. 👉 The altitude of the fragmentation event, about 350 km, suggests that the spatial density of the generated fragments is low. Most of these fragments are expected to deorbit and burn up within months. Nevertheless, the proliferation of debris from such events highlights the critical need for effective tracking and management to prevent potential conjunctions and collisions. What an amazingly interesting couple of days at the #EU #Space Forum 😁 Did you miss Kristina Nikolaus' panel discussion on greening space technologies? Fear not here are 4 key points👇 🌱 Ensuring that space remains accessible for future generations is our shared responsibility. #NewSpace has caused a race for technology, launches, funding, and regulations, but the most crucial race is ensuring the #sustainability of the space environment. 🔎 We must focus on #debrismitigation, #collisionavoidance, respect for dark and quiet skies, and effective #deorbiting & #reentry strategies from the earliest design stages. 🛰️🚀 Coordination in space, like in aviation, is non-negotiable. We must shift to active Space Traffic Management through data sharing, standard protocols, interoperability, and automation. 👉 Upcoming challenge? High-accuracy data. The path forward is complex, but global efforts are converging towards a sustainable space future. Let's continue to work together for a better tomorrow. Thank you Stella Tkatchova, Andrew Williams, Michael Cheng and Mariella Graziano for this great discussion. ✌️

In recent years, #rideshares have become evermore common. While it provides a unique opportunity for new players to enter the realm of #spaceoperations, it also comes with its challenges. 🚀 Shortly after launch, objects will travel closely together in dense clusters. Finding and identifying a specific spacecraft in such a group is...tricky, and there is a high risk of a satellite getting “lost”. For example, the video shows the spread of 53 satellites and the Falcon 9 upper stage of #SpaceX #Transporter-10 launch after orbital insertion. The objects are grouped into multiple clusters that get slowly dispersed. #spacetrack published orbits 9 days after the Transporter 10 launch. With the increased traffic in #LEO, one also needs to be ready to perform #collisionavoidance starting from day one. Getting support during the Launch and Early Operations Phase is crucial to ensure a smooth transition into regular #operations. Dedicated tracking based on #SST sensors can lead to earlier availability of orbits, decrease the risk of losing a satellite, and allow earlier collision avoidance service.
