We have produced our first menstrual pads! These are exciting times for us but it's just the beginning! For now, we can only produce in small batches because we are encountering various obstacles with our raw materials and machinery as we scale up. Why? ➡ The raw materials (for the first and third layer of the pad) were not delivered in the desired quality or turned out to be incorrect, with the wrong diameter and many folds and tears. Fortunately, we will soon receive a new delivery of the correct material. Sworup R. Poudel and Md. Hasnain Ansari, and our entire technical team in Nepal, work very hard every day on machine-related improvements. Their dedication and creativity in solving problems is remarkable! Despite these setbacks, interest in our biodegradable sanitary pads continues to grow. The first pads are being tested in the lab and trialed by our team (on a voluntary basis). It is bumpy road, but we know we are on the right path! And we will get there 🌸 💡 If you want to read more about our learnings so far (we have had a few!), check out our recently published LinkedIn article! https://lnkd.in/dCPgeF2t Thank you all for your continued support! 💚🩵

Menstruation is a biological process, yet it remains a taboo topic to many globally 🤐🩸 The stigma manifests differently across cultures but often leads to profound and far-reaching consequences. In Nepal, the menstrual stigma impacts women’s and girls' emotional well-being, leading to feelings of shame, low self-esteem, and anxiety. Worldwide it is common for women to fear having visible period blood stains on their clothes. Finally, menstrual shame enhances cycles of gender inequality by reinforcing harmful stereotypes and limiting girls' educational opportunities. Menstrual education and access to menstrual hygiene products are essential steps towards dismantling the stigma and fostering a culture of dignity, respect, and equality for all. Through this, we can create environments where women and girls are free to manage their periods without shame and fully participate in all aspects of society 💪🏾 For more information visit: https://lnkd.in/dz9RvmxQ ❤️🩸 #PeriodTaboo #PeriodPositive #PeriodTalk

We are happy to have her on our team with our mission to produce high-quality compostable menstrual pads from banana fiber. 🍌🌱 Together with her colleague Nirjala, Narayani will be responsible for preparing the fibre mattresses, operating the machines that assemble the materials, and packaging the finished sanitary pads. #greenjobs #femaleworkpower #teamwork #padmakingmachines

Raising awareness about the challenges Nepali women face is part of our mission at NIDISI. Equipped with knowledge, we can join forces to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind. Yesterday, at the University of Gdansk, Lukasz had the pleasure of talking with inspiring women of WISTA Poland about the problem of menstrual discrimination in Nepal. It was a truly empowering encounter, with vivid discussions from its first seconds. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity. We would like to especially thank Wanda Dobrowolska, Monika Urbaniak, Magda Markiewicz and Hanna Klimet for making this discussion possible. #strongertogether #nepal #menstrualdignity #humanitycandobetter WISTA International

The machine in our pad factory has finally arrived. 🎊 - Here's a little sneak peek into the test of our production process! The first biodegradable banana fibre pads have been produced and are now undergoing all the necessary quality and absorbency tests. 🩸👩🔬 The machine comes from our supplier in India. It is fully automatic, the raw materials, including the fibre mattress, rolls of cotton fleece and bioplastic, are placed into the machine and the sanitized menstrual pads come out. 🙏 We will soon be able to fully expand the production of sanitary pads for distribution. Stay tuned for more! 💚 #sustainablesanitarypads #menstruation #padmaking

The president of the rural municipality of Susta was very enthusiastic about our banana fibre factory! 🙌 Here, we begin the production process of our compostable sanitary pads by transforming banana trunks into layers of paper. These layers are then further processed into pad mattresses that absorb the menstrual blood. Finally these mattresses are transported to the pad making factory, where they are assembled with the other layers to form the biodegradable pads. 🌱🩸 We look forward to partnering with the local government of Susta municipality to distribute the pads to schools in the community as soon as they are ready. #MenstrualHealth #Sustainability #CommunityEmpowerment
