Upgrading Industries To Negative Emissions

Info

NeoCarbon reverses climate change by dramatically cutting costs of Direct Air Capture leveraging cooling towers around Europe. By retrofitting existing infrastructure without impacting their original function, the time and cost needed to set up a carbon capturing system is improved by up to 10x. NeoCarbon was formed in Berlin in 2021 by René Haas and Silvain Toromanoff, two engineers passionate about ClimateTech, and is backed by Venture Capital fund Antler.

We would like to introduce Dr. Yorgos Stergiou, our R&D Engineer, PhD from Technical University Dresden. He joined NeoCarbon as a way to apply his expertise in Process Design and Fluid Mechanics to make negative emissions a reality. His mission as an R&D Engineer is to design efficient processes and reduce the cost of our novel CO2 capture technology using advanced simulation tools. Together with Yorgos, we are turning our vision into action and contributing to achieving net-zero with our #DirectAirCapture module, which captures CO2 directly from ambient air.

🌍 Last week, our CEO, René Haas, and our Head of Commercial Development, Christian Voss, were in London to join Carbon Unbound Europe, one of the most important touchpoints of the year for the Carbon Dioxide Removal industry! The insightful conversations provided us with valuable perspectives on the future of #CDR, and we are excited to advance our approach to #DAC 🚀, strengthen #partnerships 🤝, and accelerate impactful actions in the space. It was great catching up and exchanging with new peers 👥, thanks Marta Krupinska, Tobias Seikel, Marian Krüger, Hans Westerhof, Sadataka Horie!

The NeoDuo, our first paying customer project has been making great strides. As you can see from the picture, it is now fully operational - from the capture unit itself removing #CO2 from the ambient while using #wasteheat as an energy source. All of this is also now running remotely and autonomously, giving NeoCarbon the capability to seamlessly run a multitude of experiments from a real-life environment, to optimize our capture process and bring learnings for our future capture units and reactors! The project will continue running for a few months, so that we can also gather data from winter climate, before moving on to the next stage with our customer - but more on that later!

We would like to introduce Anastasia Karela, our R&D Chemical Engineer, PhD from University of Cambridge. She joined NeoCarbon because she believes in the company's approach to tackling climate change and wants to make a positive impact on the environment through research. Her role as an R&D Chemical Engineer is to work on the development and performance characterization of novel CO2-capturing materials. Together with Anastasia, we are putting this into practice and contributing to achieving net-zero with our #DirectAirCapture module, which captures CO2 from ambient air.

Get to know the team behind NeoCarbon! We are excited to start this series by introducing our new Head of Commercial Development, Christian Voss. We would like to extend a warm welcome to him and are looking forward to having him on board as we work to scale the reduction of #CO2 in the atmosphere through our #DirectAirCapture technology. As Head of Commercial Development, Christian will guide NeoCarbon's current and future customers on their journey to net zero emissions. Christian joined NeoCarbon because he believes that finding scalable technological solutions is essential in the fight against global warming. He recognizes that NeoCarbon's Direct Air Capture solution can play a significant role in this effort and keeping our planet livable for future generations by removing CO2 emissions from the #atmosphere. We look forward to the impact Christian will have as part of our team!

At NeoCarbon, we believe that conquering climate change requires bold steps. That's why it is motivating to see the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) making a significant investment in carbon capture - $127.5 million towards the #cement and power industries. Cement accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions and it’s the most widely used substance on Earth after water, making the DOE's commitment crucial to reducing emissions on our planet! The funds will be used to develop a test center to tailor and accelerate the deployment of carbon capture technologies that meet the needs of the industry. Our mission aligns with the DOE. We're working tirelessly to drive #carboncapture by making it more affordable, scalable, and accessible to industries worldwide. Our technology not only captures CO2 from ambient air but also enables its utilization in various industrial processes, turning a global challenge into an economic opportunity. This investment is contributing to a future where carbon capture is an integral part of our industrial #ecosystem. https://lnkd.in/eZAsmiRn

We’re excited to share our recent feature in Carbon Pulse! We spoke to Bryony Collins about how NeoCarbon’s innovative #DirectAirCapture (DAC) technology is set to transform the cement industry! Our technology offers #cement plants a novel way to monetize their waste heat by converting it into carbon credits. Here’s how it works: - Our DAC units harness #wasteheat – heat that would otherwise be lost. This heat is then used to capture CO2 from ambient air. For an average cement plant, this could mean removing up to 350,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. - These #credits, which currently sell for around €500-800 per tonne, represent a substantial new revenue stream for cement plants. By integrating our technology, a typical plant could generate around half a million euros per year, with larger plants earning even more! As the EU moves towards integrating carbon removals into EU ETS by 2028, the potential for additional revenue streams will expand, providing further incentives for early adopters of DAC technology. We’re proud to be working closely with industry leaders to capture CO2 from ambient air – providing a carbon-negative solution.
