How does biodegradable sealing work? After last week's presentation of Bentofix® Green as an innovative biodegradable sealing from a roll, today we explain how it works. 🌱 💯 Once the Bentofix® Green bentonite mat (GCL/geosynthetic clay liner) has been installed and poured over, the bentonite begins to swell under the influence of moisture and forms a homogeneous sealing layer. Bentonite has the ability to automatically reseal penetrations or dry cracks so that a permanent sealing effect is achieved. The biodegradable carrier and cover materials are manufactured by Naue on the basis of cellulose or PLA. Both raw materials are biodegradable but have different properties in terms of their behaviour. Common Utility Tunnel Project in Hongkong 🏙️ In the "Tung Chung New Town Extension" project in Hongkong, a 1.7 km Common Utility Tunnel (CUT) is being constructed to support urban growth and environmental sustainability. The CUT integrates various utilities to minimize future excavations and enhance energy efficiency with a District Cooling System. 💡 To ensure the stability of the tunnel, a high-strength filter geotextile layer was specified before placing the rock fill. German Delegation Trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 💼🌍 This week, Naue was participating in a German delegation visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was organised by German RETech Partnership e.V. as part of an ongoing collaboration on the topic of Circular Economy between Germany and Malaysia. We are glad to share our extensive expertise on the importance of quality control of disposal solutions implemented worldwide. NEW: Naue Bentofix® Green - The biodegradable sealing from the roll 🌀 Does this headline make you think that the sealing will degrade? Fortunately, this is only partly true! Bentofix® Green, for which patent protection has already been applied for, is a sealing that is made exclusively from natural raw materials. 🍃 Naue has already been producing nonwovens from biodegradable fibres for several years: Secutex® Green. In Bentofix® Green, these nonwovens serve as a carrier and top layer for the bentonite powder, which acts as a seal between the two nonwoven layers in this sandwich product. Strictly speaking, the degradable backing and cover layers are an installation aid that disappears over time. 💡 In its swollen state, sodium bentonite powder becomes a highly effective seal, with a thickness of e.g. one centimetre it provides a sealing effect of several decimetres of clay. The advantages are obvious: significantly less material is required, many transports are eliminated, large amounts of CO2 are saved and microplastics caused by lorry abrasion are largely avoided. Stabilizing a Landfill At the old landfill "Am Knochen" in Raschau-Markersbach, Germany, geosynthetics have played a crucial role in creating stable and environmentally safe structures.
