50 years of Tornado: Today we celebrate half a century in aviation history! 🎉 On August 14, 1974, the first Panavia Tornado prototype soared into the skies for the very first time 🛫 We’re incredibly proud to power the RB199 alongside Rolls-Royce and Avio Aero–the 2,504 delivered RB199 engines performed outstandingly with more than 7.18 million flight hours (as of December 2023). MTU holds a 40% share and continues to provide spare parts, maintenance, and technical support. The three-shaft design RB199 was not only revolutionary thanks to its modular design, but also a genuine European success story. A success story that MTU has continued over the decades with the EJ200 for the Eurofighter–and now also as a partner for powering the next generation of fighter aircraft. #DefenceMatters #WeaAreEngineExperts #Tornado #Eurofighter #FCAS

What a beautiful sight! Take a look at the very first CFM56-7B to be tested at MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg, following extensive updates to our Ludwigsfelde test facility over the past year and getting it all licensed last April. We can now test one of the most prolific aero engines in aviation history not only in Europe, but in the Americas at MTU Maintenance Dallas and in Asia at MTU Maintenance Zhuhai. #WeAreEngineExperts #CFM56 #MRO

Discover the virtual engine! In the future, MTU wants to use digital twins to virtually map an engine’s entire lifecycle—from development to flight operations. A virtual engine is a virtual version of a physical engine. It comprises the “as-designed twin,” the “as-built twin,” the “as-used twin,” and the digital thread that runs through the object’s entire lifecycle. Creating and assessing a virtual engine calls for special skills, tools, processes, and data. #WeAreEngineExperts #Innovation #VirtualEngine #DigitalTrend #Lifecycle

Geothermal energy: The next milestone 👷 It took only 15 months from the construction and production of the two boreholes to the dismantling of the geothermal drilling tower. There is nothing left of the 43-meter-high, 500-ton blue tower, which visibly embodied the geothermal project on the MTU site in Munich from the end of 2023 to mid-2024. Together with experienced partners, the drilling phase was completed on time and without disruptions. During the drilling phase, the construction site was manned 24 hours a day in two shifts. Construction of the heat distribution center will now begin and is expected to be completed in May 2025. Commissioning is scheduled for June 2025. #GeothermalEnergy #Construction

Another successful deployment. ⚙️ Recently, one of our customers reported an aircraft-on-ground (AOG) situation in south-east Asia after discovering bearing material in a screen of their GE90-110B1’s accessory gearbox. Within 24 Hours, our MTU Maintenance ON-SITEᴾˡᵘˢ experts organized the needed material and tooling and took off for Asia. Once there, they removed the damaged AGB and installed a serviceable one with fresh hardware. Within a few days, they were able to fix the GE90-110B1 and get the Boeing 777 back to the sky! #WeAreEngineExperts #MRO #OnSite #GE90 #OSS

P2P Challenge ‘24: Great team spirit at the 5th edition 🚴 P2P stands for "Plant to Plant" and is based on the idea of cycling from one MTU location to another. This time, 60 MTU colleagues cycled from MTU Maintenance Hannover to MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg via the Harz Mountains and the Thuringian Forest, with stops in Braunlage, Ilmenau and Leipzig. The daily stages ranged from 145 to 185 km, with a total of 691 kilometers and 5500 meters of altitude. What a great achievement! Although the temperatures were very challenging, all participants completed the challenge safely and were welcomed back to Ludwigsfelde after four eventful days. Of course, none of this would be possible without dedicated helpers. So we'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you. #P2Pchallenge #WeAreEngineExperts #Cycling #BikeTour #TeamSpirit
