Info
A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation. Along with our communities of 20,000 contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come). By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.

What is public AI? Public AI builds on a long tradition of public alternatives – such as public transportation and public broadcasting – that serve society as a whole. We believe public AI can ensure AI works for the public good, not just for profit. Learn more about our vision for public AI, and how it can foster opportunity for everyone: https://lnkd.in/ggcK-GEG

Mozilla hat dies direkt geteilt
Today, Mozilla unveiled its vision for Public AI—an approach to everything from AI development and deployment that is built with the public interest in mind. There’s a longstanding history of public counterparts to private technological innovations—our roads support both cars and buses, the airwaves broadcast NBC alongside PBS, and the internet is accessible through both commercial and nonprofit-backed browsers. Now is the time to ask: what are the public counterparts that will coexist alongside private AI innovation? The Big AI players are building exciting and useful technology. But, by and large, what they are not building is open source technology and infrastructure designed with society's broader interests in mind. As startups, academics, artists and public servants increasingly build on AI, they need tools designed to be flexible and affordable from the ground up. Mozilla is leading the charge to create exactly this. The idea isn't to replace the big commercial players, but rather to create a parallel public option, with different players and different rules—rules designed to empower as many people as possible to chart their own course with AI and build solutions for public purposes, with safety and accountability at its core. Our report lays out this different vision. https://lnkd.in/gA6SekZk

Congrats to our Mozilla Builders Accelerator cohort! These 14 projects showcase today’s current breadth and depth of innovation in Local AI while showing us what’s possible tomorrow — they are a testament to the creativity, ingenuity, and power of the open-source AI ecosystem. And we couldn’t be more excited to introduce them to you. Over the next 12 weeks, each project will participate in a tailored build-sprint program designed to help them grow their reach, maximize their impact, and address project-specific challenges. The work culminates in a December 5, 2024, demo day in San Francisco. Read more --> https://lnkd.in/ex_JRrUn

"We’re seeing a wave of AI models — many from the biggest tech companies — being touted by “open source” failing to reflect the spirit of the original open source software definition. While this might feel like semantics, words matter. Sloppy language around open source AI can scupper trillions of dollars in future innovation and leave terms of AI in the hands of a few big companies." https://lnkd.in/gM6mHBNV
