    At the last LEAD Network Europe conference, Carsten Knobel, CEO of Henkel, and I agreed to carry out a mutual workout at our respective companies, Henkel and METRO. 🏭 🥼 🧪 What a fantastic day! We started the workout at Henkel’s headquarters in Düsseldorf where I discovered the holistic process of Persil detergent - from R&D with an automated stain-soiling machine in the lab, production line, packaging, and the logistics behind it. 🚚 🛒 At our METRO wholesale store in Düsseldorf, I could share with Carsten our growth strategy 'sCore' through this very practical example, which is boosting our company to become a multichannel wholesaler. In this workout, Carsten and I placed the Persil products on the shelves of our wholesale store and even trained at our checkout. 🤝 I’m thrilled to have met Carsten and all great Henkel colleagues for this special exchange on business topics and I learned so much that day.  In particular, I'm very impressed by the innovative strength of Henkel, the power of the brand, and its history. It’s so fantastic to have two great companies, Henkel and METRO, headquartered in the same wonderful city of #Düsseldorf. Decision maker from the worlds of politics and business were invited to discuss the future of city centres under the title 'Dining between coat hangers and lipstick: Are retailers becoming restaurateurs?' - for Ina #Scharrenbach, State Minister for Construction NRW, it is quite obvious that it´s the mix that makes it: “City centres need passion, curiosity and diversity. Retail and gastronomy are very important design factors and drivers for this, which need and depend on each other.” Andreas Rebbelmund, Managing Director Breuninger, made clear why it must be a joint effort: “As a city centre retailer, we are now competing with many other leisure activities. That's why the connection with gastronomy in retail is an absolute must for us today.” “City centers need a diverse range of products and services in order to be livelier again. Retail gastronomy can contribute to a diverse shopping experience”, emphasized Sonja Garsztecki, Owner of Wunderhaus GmbH. As the hospitality industry makes a significant contribution to the quality of life and attractiveness of a city, so it is a political responsibility to create a supportive environment for restaurateurs. Lord mayor Dr. Stephan Keller has a clear goal: “Düsseldorf wants to join the Champions League of cities with a diverse and vibrant gastronomy scene.” As a committed partner of the gastronomy and being main sponsor of the Gourmet Festival (recently extended to the next three years), which once again attracted over 100,000 visitors, we see ourselves not only as a wholesaler, but also as a supporter and facilitator of moments full of enjoyment.     🚚 We expand our FSD activities in the UK through acquisition of Caterite We have today acquired UK-based food service delivery specialist Caterite Food & Wineservice Ltd. Caterite supplies to over 2,000 HoReCa customers in the premium and masstige segments, offering a mix of locally and internationally sourced food, complemented with value-added products from its own processing and production facilities. With Caterite’s regional focus on the tourist-rich Lake District and adjacent regions, the acquisition will help us expand our #FSD activities to the northern parts of the UK, thereby accelerating the nationwide expansion. The acquisition will not only support our #sCore goal of increasing FSD share of total sales to 33% by 2030, but will immediately complement activities of FSD specialist Classic Fine Foods UK Ltd | B Corp™, which supplies premium customers primarily in the greater London area, South West and central parts of the UK, creating cross selling opportunities across companies.     "Kick it like METRO" - 150 political guests, #customers and employees followed our call and watched the first EURO 2024 semi-final together in our "Fußballhimmel" at the rooftop of our METRO Deutschland GmbH store in Berlin-Friedrichshain.   In perfect weather, the Management Board of METRO Deutschland welcomed the guests on the most beautiful and certainly highest football pitch in Berlin. "METRO has always stood for small and medium-sized businesses. The European Championship is bringing the restaurateurs a positive impact it has been missing for a long time. This is what we are celebrating here today," said Martin Schumacher, CEO of METRO Germany, in his welcoming speech. "The European Championship will have a positive impact on the hotel and restaurant industry, which is particularly important for Berlin," emphasised Franziska #Giffey, Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Companies and Mayor of Berlin.   Football and METRO - a perfect match! Why is that? In addition to our commitment to Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf, school classes and #clubs that would otherwise have no place to train have been training on our football roof in Berlin-Friedrichshain since 2006. Julia Thielicke, Head of Public Policy Germany, pointed out: "And we agree with national team coach Julian Nagelsmann: if we all stand together, we can achieve a lot. That's why we're working hand in hand with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, which manages the pitch.“     Two Berlin-based clients - #MrRoster Berlin & #Barracuda Barcatering - took care of the amazing catering.
