Nearly a month ago, on april 10th, there was an extensive fire that literally consumed the whole assembly plant of Mekra Lang Mexico. Thanks God no one was harmed.
The fire not only burned down the building, but also the hope and dreams of each one of us giving our best every day at Mekra Lang. No matter how long I stared that building, I simply could not believe it.
The very next morning after the fire, we were not even sure if Mekra Lang Mexico would keep standing. We asked each other what the next step would be, if any… Suddenly, a very simple but powerful message came from the owners of the company: YOU ARE NOT ALONE, AND WE WILL ALL REBUILD MEKRA. Few hours later, a Mekra top executive, along with a specilized team, arrived from Germany to Monterrey, leaving their families and homes behind to be side by side with their mexican colleagues.
The first two days were crucial to start reorganizing the activities. We also found a lot of support, empathy, and understanding within our dearest customers.
Then, the first week after the fire was gone. We had already recovered 100% of all injection molding tools. We also defined priorities and planned the roadmap to rebuild Mekra. We were working restless 24/7, and our families started to notice our absence.
In a blink of an eye, the second week was gone. Many tools were already repaired; new molders were assigned to restart production; Engineering and Manufacturing had a clear path to rebuild the lines; and customers were satisfied with the recovery plan in progress. Each one of us started to feel tired, no rest yet, but there was a strange, rather nice growing feeling growing inside that gave sense to all the efforts we were doing.
As expected, the third week is gone as well. Today we have a better understanding and communication between departments than ever before. We ALL are working together towards a brigther future, with a common goal. The same pressure that had burned out our minds in the last three weeks, has also given us a lot of hope and strength to deliver the best.
Today, almost a month ago, we were told that we have a new home. A home that still needs a lot of care and dedication, a home that will shine again, a home that we will rebuild.
It is not time to rest, yet. We have a very harsh path in front of us, but I am sure that in few years we will look backwards and remember this as one of our best and proudest moments in our lifes.
The best of #MekraLang is yet to come, and we are part of this new chapter!!!
