Scientists at LZH have developed a prototype for a highly efficient fiber-based laser amplifier for an optical satellite communication system 🛰️ ➡️ The highly efficient fiber amplifier with a total optical output power of 100 watts in the 1 µm wavelength range enables communication using Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). ➡️ It amplifies ten closely spaced wavelengths simultaneously in a single fiber, thereby supporting ten separate data channels and increasing the transmission rate of the system. ➡️ The researchers achieved an overall wall-plug efficiency of around 30 percent for the amplifier system using fiber technology, marking a significant improvement compared to traditional amplifier systems operating in the classic telecom wavelength range of 1.5 µm. Diese Woche haben wir bereits zum zehnten Mal gemeinsam mit dem Institut für Produktentwicklung und Gerätebau (LUH) - Prof. Roland Lachmayer den Workshop „Innovative Product Development by Additive Manufacturing” ausgerichtet. Etwa 40 Teilnehmende haben sich zu innovativen Prozessen und Entwicklungen im Bereich Additive Fertigung ausgetauscht. Besonders im Fokus standen Design Methoden, Materialien und Prozesse.   Während der Mittagspause gab es viele Gelegenheiten zum Networking, und die Möglichkeit in unserem Versuchsfeld neuesten Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekte, auch des IPeGs, genauer kennenzulernen.   Glückwunsch an Marco Noack vom Institute for Product Development and Machine Elements (pmd) der Technischen Universität Darmstadt zum Award für die „Best Presentation“! 🏆   Vielen Dank an alle Referent:innen und Teilnehmer:innen für diesen spannenden Tag!   #AdditiveManufacturing #ProductDevelopment #Research #Innovation

Scientists of LZH and the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) are jointly researching electrically pumped semiconductor disk lasers for ultra-short pulse generation. ✳️ ➡️The researchers aim to realize electrically pumped systems emitting in the fundamental mode with ultra-short pulses of high power. ➡️To achieve this, they will investigate the feasibility of a system consisting of an electrically pumped semiconductor structure with a large emission surface and a matching resonator with, if possible, only a single additional optical component (resonator output coupler). ➡️As part of the project, the LZH is responsible for the investigation and integration of an optimized electrically pumped semiconductor chip into an ultra-short pulse (USP) laser system.
