🤖 ✈️ Last week, we discussed how robotics can support employees in the aviation industry as part of the Lufthansa Group Innovation Runway Lunch session. Our guest speakers offered exciting insights into their daily work: 💡 Stuart Holdstock (Head of Projects & Processes Group Ops from Lufthansa) explained how robots and autonomous vehicles can be used to automate baggage handling and loading/unloading processes at the ramp and in the cargo center, improving process time, staff safety and health but also reducing loading staff shortages. 💡 Björn Eckermann (Referent XR Training Technologies from Lufthansa Aviation Training Group) showed how cabin crew can be trained in the future using robots and full immersive #VR surroundings to simulate emergency scenarios. This offers many advantages, such as high-quality realistic and haptic training, high training flexibility, high productivity and low costs.  💡 Dr. Fereshta Yazdani (Technology Consultant from Lufthansa Industry Solutions) outlined how robots can support employees on cruise ships while at the same time offering unique entertainment to the guests and increasing customer engagement.   In addition to the captivating presentations, we also enjoyed a lively Q&A and networking session with our colleagues and are already looking forward to the next Innovation Runway Lunch session to learn more about breakthrough innovations from internal and external guest speakers💡   A big "Thank you" goes out to Katrin Schreiber, Emma Kok and Timm Römer for organizing such an amazing event! We are excited to announce the first InnovAero Competition from Lufthansa Technik focusing on our future! The competition will address sustainability challenges, inviting students from various disciplines such as aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, climate research, IT, and other departments.   The task is divided into two main aspects: 1. Equip aircraft with suitable sensors to independently collect climate-relevant data. 2. Use this data to optimize flight routes, aiming to avoid persistent contrails and negative climate impacts.   A jury will evaluate the submissions, and the top 50 participants will be invited to Hamburg, Germany. Excellent environmental management: Lufthansa Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine receive EMAS seal of approval again 🌱   Lufthansa Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine have once again received the demanding @EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certification, which sends a strong signal for corporate environmental responsibility at the Frankfurt and Munich locations. Our progressive environmental management system was examined in detail and confirmed by external auditors. An outstanding example of our measures is the "Reduced Engine Taxi-In" procedure, which saves up to 2,750 tons of kerosene annually. The option for passengers on intra-European flights to order meals in advance has also helped to reduce waste. Our planned technology cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Airbus, MTU Aero Engines and Munich Airport to promote power-to-liquid (PtL) fuels is forward-looking. This collaboration aims to accelerate the market introduction and industrial scaling of PtL fuels in Germany.
