#Quantentechnologien sind "𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟ü𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫ä𝐧𝐢𝐭ä𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐬" (BMBF), weshalb die Europäische Kommission sie zu den vier wesentlichen "kritischen Technologien" für unsere Zukunft zählt. Nicht nur, aber auch als größte Volkswirtschaft der Europäischen Union hat Deutschland eine besondere Verantwortung dabei Wege zu finden, wie sich die Chancen der Quantentechnologien nutzen und ihre Risiken mitigieren lassen; aufbauend auf über einem Jahrhundert sowohl an weltweit führender Grundlagenforschung, als auch ihrer unternehmerischer Nutzbarmachung, sind in Deutschland darüber hinaus besonders potente Ökosysteme entstanden, die dieser Verantwortung gerecht werden könn(t)en - und müssen. Als Hauptstadt wiederum, meine ich, hat Berlin eine herausragende Rolle für das Gelingen der "zweiten Quantenrevolution" zu spielen. Vor dem Hintergrund dieser persönlichen Überzeugung war es mir eine große Freude und Ehre gleichermaßen, den ersten BERLIN QUANTUM Day eröffnen zu dürfen. (Wer sich für Eindrücke und einen Bericht interessiert findet beides bei Prof. Dr. Jens Eisert, einem der Initiatoren des Programms, hier: https://lnkd.in/eYSgE2tj) Dabei hat mich besonders gefreut, dass - neben den zahlreichen klugen Nachwuchsforschenden und engagierten StartUp-Foundern aus aller Welt - unser strategischer Partner aus Frankreich dazugestoßen ist: Das Le Lab Quantique, das europaweit Maßstäbe in unserem Bereich setzt. (Der Blick aus Paris findet sich hier: https://lnkd.in/eYMFC89W) Es ist noch lange nicht ausgemacht, wer den "quantum race" in welchen Feldern der relevanten Forschung und des Wissenstransfers gewinnen wird - auch weil dieser "quantum race" selbst eingebettet ist in den globalen Systemwettbwerb unserer Zeit zwischen Demokratie(n) und Autokratie(n). Insofern lohnt sich jedes Engagement, auf jeder Ebene, von jeder Person, Institution, Generation die sich einbringen kann. Möge unser #BerlinQuantumDay24 dazu beigetragen haben, dass wir heute und in Zukunft den Segen der Quantentechnologien genießen können. Meinen herzlichen Dank an alle Beteiligten!

What a wonderful evening to celebrate the new fellows of BERLIN QUANTUM. The students and postdocs funded by the initiative were really in the center of this festive event in a cinema during the #BerlinQuantumDay. Stefan Woerner gave an inspiring evening keynote talk, Günter M. Ziegler was greeting everyone and gave some insightful perspective, Arno Rauschenbeutel explained the genesis of this and Dr. Henry Marx left no doubt that all this is important for Berlin. Katharina Witte guided through the startup component of this. Manouchehr Shamsrizi, M.P.P. FRSA led through the evening in his typical enjoyable fashion. To all, thanks for coming and for making this an enjoyable event. As I said a week ago at the end of the Einstein Research Unit on Quantum Devices funded by the Einstein Foundation Berlin, citing the Beatles: Hello, hello, I do not know why you say goodbye, we say hello. Today, we celebrated the hello.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bitkom for two extraordinary days of connection, knowledge-sharing, #inspiration, and exchange. It was our privilege to attend the #QuantumSummit2024, where we witnessed groundbreaking ideas presented by leading minds in #QuantumTechnology. As promised, we are pleased to share our key #takeaways below.   💡 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Building a robust quantum ecosystem requires careful consideration of its fundamental components. ☝️ Identify them, develop them, and create sustainable well-organized ecosystems.   💡 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Technological advancements should progress in tandem with #infrastructural development to facilitate the seamless integration of new quantum technologies. ☝️ Focus on enhancing both technological and business readiness, prioritizing the development of #adoptable technologies.   💡 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: While #financial resources are crucial, they are not the sole determinant of #success. We should strive to create #sustainable systems that can thrive beyond initial #investments. ☝️ Remember that funding alone cannot solve every challenge in quantum technology development.   💡 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Quantum technology holds the potential to significantly reduce energy costs and optimize other expenses connected to technological development and innovation. ☝️ Always think about your Co2 footprint.   💡 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦: The quantum revolution may not manifest as a sudden boom (in contrast to AI revolution) but rather as a gradual development that offers long-term economic advantages. However, breakthroughs or serendipitous moments in hardware or software development may accelerate progress. ☝️ Don’t wait for luck.   💡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Effective stakeholder collaboration is vital. Ensure that the ecosystem understands the underlying motivations while the industry grasps the practical implications. ☝️ Foster cooperation between researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to address industry needs comprehensively. Bridging the gap between scientific research and industrial applications is crucial, as is aligning goals between profit-driven industries and research institutions.   💡 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠: Focus on scaling up both production and consumption of quantum technologies. ☝️ Accelerate production scaling and consumption growth of quantum technologies.  💡 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: In recent years, there has been a tendency to oversell quantum technology, leading to unmet expectations. ☝️ Moving forward, all stakeholders should prioritize honesty in their communications. While public interest and talent acquisition remain important, it's crucial to maintain integrity and avoid exaggeration. #QuantumTechnology #BusinessDevelopment #Collaboration #Networking #Sustainability #Learning

one of this week's highlights for me: joining the 3th community meeting of World Economic Forum's "Quantum Applications Hub" yesterday, and being invited / able to provide perspectives from our Leap Berlin, Germany's capital hub on #quantumtechnologies 😇 as an alumnus* of the amazing Global Shapers Community, it was great to re-experience the spirit of #WEF, and to see how it can go hand in hand with #deeptech! just one example, which is very close to my heart**: "Recently, the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with Accenture, released a report on how quantum technologies - namely quantum computing, sensing, and communication - could help achieve the SDGs. Their conclusion is that while quantum is still under development, its potential impact on society is significant, especially when strategically used in order to advance these sustainability goals." (summary by Cierra Choucair, for The Quantum Insider***) everyone, everywhere is looking forward to the "second quantum revolution" taking place - and we know that, done right, it will make the world a better place, which is very exciting to see and be part of 🥰 many thanks for having me, Arunima Sarkar, Arnaud Bacq, and everyone involved! * as it happens, my time as both, the curator of the WEF Global Shapers - Hamburg and as a member of the GS's Advisory Council on Collaborations is precisely a decade ago, 2014-2015 ** not only have Dominique V.
