How do ideas such as the abolishment of #childlabor spread in society? 🔎 This #videopublication by Kerstin Maria Pahl in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Human Development explores new research on this topic. https://lnkd.in/eD4JZGpw
Info
Who We Are – About LATEST THINKING LATEST THINKING is an Open Access Video Journal providing summaries of current research findings covering all academic fields from astronomy to physics, from biology to philosophy. Our original videos are abstracts of peer-reviewed academic publications, brought to you by the authors themselves and embedded in a unique video player which navigates you through the scholar's flow of ideas. Themed clusters and playlists guide you to your areas of interest; reading recommendations and additional information on the scholars and their field of study round off the experience. LATEST THINKING is where scientists share their insights. Why We Do it – Our Vision We believe that as many people as possible should have access to cutting-edge research. Yet most scientific publications are written for an expert audience only and enshrined behind paywalls. This prevents the interested public from accessing seminal knowledge, let alone, benefitting from it. Thus it is our goal to increase the impact of scientific findings and promote transparency for the sake of progress and innovation in all areas of society. How We Do it – Our Service We offer a full service for scholars who want to share their findings with the public and boost the outreach of their research with an open access video publication by LATEST THINKING. Our video shootings are crafted to conveniently fit a tight work schedule and the needs of our interviewees: shootings on the spot, a technically sophisticated and fast production process, and a great outreach impact factor. The latter is guaranteed by the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY) which we apply to our videos. We welcome dissemination: Feel free to pass on the knowledge!

The lovely people at LATEST THINKING (lt.org) have been collaborating with the many scientists of the nextGEMS | next Generation Earth Modelling Systems project to create some fantastic videos explaining our work. I was lucky to fall into their hands with an opportunity to discuss my first ever publication ✨ The LT team was super nice and welcoming, and made me feel comfortable in the setting that was otherwise far outside of my comfort zone! I am very happy with the result 🌞 In the video, I discuss how I and the colleagues from nextGEMS set out to test whether a range of turbulence parameterizations in two forced ocean models can reproduce an observed local mixing process. In the study, we find that the models do not simulate the observed mixing at the site we investigate. However, the work is continuing - since the publishing, a new mixing database was developed by the colleagues from GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel. I am hoping to get more insights into local mixing processes in the models using the database before my PhD is over! Other than the vertical turbulence parameterization, there are a range of model properties that might lead to discrepancies between the simulations and observations. I hope that my PhD work can in a small way contribute to the global effort of continuous development and improvement of climate models✌️
