TUM LPL - Laboratory for Product Development and Lightweight Design

Learn how to design and manufacture lightweight structures made of carbon composites at LPL! In our lab course, four energetic and creative TUM student teams competed this semester in building the lightest carbon composite beam subject to requirements on stiffness and strength. They developed unique designs, ranging from conventional and conservative to unconventional and exploratory. All designs were carefully tested at the #LPL testing facility. Production, optimization, and virtual certification for generative manufacturing processes I’m happy to successfully complete the half-year meeting of our research project PROVING with the partners Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, Boeing, EES Eppinger Engineering Solutions GmbH, Oerlikon AM, Technische Universität Berlin, TUM LPL - Laboratory for Product Development and Lightweight Design, IABG. Our aim is to develop a simulation-driven certification methodology for aircraft structural components, including digital process control and documentation.
