Ryno Verster, Vice President and Senior Business Development Officer at KfW IPEX-Bank’s Johannesburg office, contributed his financing expertise to the Infrastructure Africa event in #CapeTown last week. Ryno took part in the “Funding and Investment” panel. “We discussed how projects can attract and secure adequate funding from both public and private sources” says Ryno. Given the fact that large pools of debt capital do exist, yet remain untapped due to a lack of bankable and sufficiently de-risked projects, a big topic was how to mobilise this capital through innovative financing mechanisms and de-risking solutions. Ryno outlined the role of Export Credit Agency (#ECA) insurance products and other credit enhancements in the market to remove political risk from the equation. “In addition to helping to close the infrastructure funding gap on the continent, this creates a win-win for foreign exporters who enjoy more competitive market positioning, and local borrowers, who reap the benefits of lower margins and longer loan tenors” says Ryno. He also underscored the need for better project risk assessment, especially in the realm of Public Private Partnerships – each risk needs to be allocated to the party in the best position to manage such risk at the lowest cost. This leads the lowest possible overall risk-adjusted project cost, ultimately leading to better financing outcomes for the project. As one of the world’s pre-eminent export finance banks, these insights demonstrate KfW IPEX-Bank’s relevance in the African infrastructure market, where complex infrastructure projects seek solutions that address inherent project risks and help bridge the gap between available capital and urgent infrastructure funding needs. The panel was moderated by Daniel makokera (CEO, Pamuzinda Productions) and joined by: ✅ Mohan Vivekanandan | Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA)Alastair Herbertson | Emerging Africa Infrastructure FundTowela Jere | AUDA NEPADPhilemon Thabo Thobane | Senior underwriter, Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa Soc Ltd (ECIC) Ryno Verster, Vice President and Senior Business Development Officer | KfW IPEX-Bank #InfrastructureAfrica #infrastructure #InfrastructureFinancing #ProjectFinance #ExportFinance #IPEX

Did you know that large quantities of CO2 are released from waste that is deposited in open landfills, as is common practice in many countries? Rotting waste releases what is known as landfill gas, a combination of CO2 and methane, which is even more harmful to the climate. It is much more climate-friendly to incinerate the waste, especially if the energy released in the process is utilised, as is the case in modern Waste-to-Energy plants. Abu Dhabi has now decided to divert most of its waste from landfills and to showcase the value of waste as an energy source to reduce environmental pollution, and KfW IPEX-Bank is proudly contributing financing to the country's first Waste-to-Energy plant. Dr Velibor Marjanovic: “It’s a perfect match for us: With our financing, we support German and European exporters and, at the same time, the project helps to reduce carbon emissions and promotes circular economy in Abu Dhabi.” Go to press release: https://lnkd.in/e4BcxQVz #energy #wastemanagement #wastetoenergy #sustainability #decarbonization #IPEX

🚗🔋⚡🔌 Financing the mobility transition in #Europe: KfW IPEX-Bank and NatWest have together provided £55 million of debt facilities to support Be.EV’s electric vehicle charging network rollout. The funds will be used to accelerate the expansion of Be.EV’s charging network in communities across the #UK who don’t have access to rapid and ultra-rapid charging yet. By the end of 2024 Be.EV plans to operate more than 1,000 publicly accessible corresponding charge points in these regions. The chargers will be powered by renewable energy from Octopus Energy.   With this financing, KfW IPEX-Bank underlines its commitment to contribute to the green transformation of the economy and society.   Andreas Ufer, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, said: “We are glad to have won Be.EV as a new customer and thus help advance the e-mobility infrastructure in the UK. It is our mission to support the mobility transition with our financings in Europe and worldwide and drive the change towards decarbonisation in our societies.” Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, said: “The financing of KfW IPEX-Bank serves as a huge vote of confidence in our mission to provide reliable ultra-rapid charging to communities that have been left behind by the transition to electric vehicles. This sizably paves the way for future investments in the industry, which ultimately benefits the EV driving community and helps the UK Government’s Zero-emission-vehicles by 2035 mandate. It proves that investors, both domestic and international, are confident in the UK’s transition to EVs and its importance in transitioning to a net zero economy.” #EVcharging #emobility #electriccars #infrastructure #infrastructurefinance #sustainability #finance #IPEX
