Safer, smarter, and more collaborative maritime operations

Info

Berlin-based Kaiko Systems GmbH was founded in late 2020 to make shipping safer, smarter, and more collaborative. We have developed a smart and user-friendly data collection and analysis tool that provides shipping companies and their stakeholders with comprehensive insights into the manual part of technical operations, such as inspection and maintenance. With a user-friendly mobile app, crews are able to continuously collect reliable technical data on the job. The automated, AI-based analysis then provides shore teams with data-based insights on potential risks and efficiency gains. Disruptions and downtimes of ships can thus be reduced. At our Leaders Forum a few weeks ago, we discussed the value of an external perspective in process management. Having someone who is emotively detached can help analyse data more effectively, identify improvement gaps, and suggest changes you might not have considered. Embrace an outside view to enhance your processes and drive growth! Thank you to our Technology Partners at Sedna, Kaiko Systems, United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. And a thank you to our association partners at the UK Chamber of Shipping, British Ports Association and Seatrade Maritime club 👏 #ProcessManagement #BusinessGrowth #Efficiency #ExternalPerspective #Innovation #StrategicPlanning #OperationalExcellence #LeadershipForum #ContinuousImprovement

🚢 Breaking News for Tanker Managers 🚢 OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) is officially transitioning to SIRE 2.0 on Monday, 2 September 2024. This marks a significant milestone in tanker inspection protocols, starting a new era of digitalization and enhanced vetting standards for the maritime industry. From 12:00 UTC on 2 September 2024, vessel operators will be required to request inspections exclusively through SIRE 2.0. The current VIQ7 inspection requests will cease to be available after 23:59 UTC on 1 September 2024. Key Transition Details: Final Phase 3 Trials: Continue until 1 September 2024. Inspection Report Access: Phase 3 trial inspection reports published post-transition will be fully accessible and no longer anonymized. Report Availability: Existing VIQ7 reports will remain available for download for 12 months post-publication. SIRE 2.0 places a much greater emphasis on Human Factors, acknowledging that their performance and knowledge are crucial for the overall efficiency and safety of vessels. However, seafarers’ ability to perform these duties can be compromised if equipment is faulty, procedures are ineffective, or conditions hinder their work. SIRE 2.0 addresses these human factors, providing ships with the opportunity to enhance the reliability and effectiveness of the tasks crucial for safeguarding the vessel. Currently, inspections typically reveal two to four issues per ship, with five or six findings already causing concern among charterers. Under SIRE 2.0, inspectors may identify as many as 20 to 30 findings per vessel, which will require careful discussion and adaptation within the industry. We foresee several companies in the tanker industry facing unexpected challenges as SIRE 2.0 becomes fully operational. While not everyone will be impacted, some may find it difficult to uphold their previously excellent performance records. Kaiko Systems customers are very much aware of SIRE 2.0, having prepared for years with robust crew training and advanced tools. Our new digital, mobile-first inspection process standardizes the questionnaire, guiding inspectors through the vetting procedure with a core set of questions. It has integrated the extensive 1,600-page question library into a self-assessment program with personalized questions for each rank. Our solution provides a dynamic gap analysis for tanker fleets, identifies potential risks, and facilitates informed decision-making for ship managers and crew members. Feedback from seafarers has been overwhelmingly positive, with hundreds of vessels already relying on Kaiko Systems. With more than 24,000 SIRE inspections conducted last year, the impact of the new inspection regime will be closely watched. We believe there is a big risk for tanker managers and owners, but it is manageable with the right approach. Let’s embrace this change and ensure fleets are ready for the future of tanker inspections.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Day of the Seafarer. Realizing that, ironically, seafarers themselves are on and keeping up global supply chains every single day of the year, one might feel cynical about dedicating just a single day to honor them. Seafarers now spend over 50% of their time on paperwork and administrative overhead, which, while necessary, can turn a fulfilling job into a monotonous task. This has a real impact on job satisfaction and mental well-being. At Kaiko Systems, we're dedicated to making maritime work more purposeful. We're reducing the administrative burden with our innovative mobile-first and AI-powered solutions, so seafarers can focus on their core responsibilities—navigating, operating, and maintaining vessels. And not paperwork. Through technology, we aim to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and make maritime jobs more enjoyable. To mark the occasion on this special day, let's commit to creating an environment where seafarers can thrive—every day of the year. 💪

🚢 Tanker Owners and Operators: Time to Prepare for SIRE 2.0! 🚢 I recently had the opportunity to speak with TradeWinds about the imminent changes in the oil industry's Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE). The introduction of SIRE 2.0 is set to bring a comprehensive overhaul, focusing heavily on crew readiness and the human element of maritime operations. While some tanker operators have been diligently preparing, there is a concerning level of overconfidence among a subset of smaller and medium-sized, but also some of the leading operators. The new regime's rigorous requirements and extensive question library will undoubtedly increase the number of inspection findings, posing significant commercial risks if not managed properly. At Kaiko Systems, we’ve been working closely with the industry and SIRE Inslectors to ensure seafarers are equipped with the necessary tools and training to navigate these changes successfully. Our digital self-assessment program, designed around the SIRE 2.0 question library, is already helping hundreds of vessels stay ahead of the curve. For those in the industry, I urge you to take immediate action: 1. **Review and enhance your training programs.** 2. **Leverage digital tools to simplify and standardize inspections.** 3. **Engage proactively with charterers to manage expectations and mitigate risks.** Read more about the upcoming changes and how to prepare in the full article by TradeWinds: https://lnkd.in/dWP8tgCP Together, let’s ensure crews are not just prepared, but confident and capable of meeting the new SIRE 2.0 standards. 🌊 #MaritimeSafety #Sire2 #TankerIndustry #KaikoSystems #MaritimeInnovation #CrewTraining #DigitalTransformation Kaiko Systems OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) INTERTANKO
