Shaping the Economic Debate
Info
“Shaping the Economic Debate”: The ifo Institute wants to help shape the economic policy debate in Germany and Europe. We can do this because we combine excellent research with economic policy relevance. Our research findings provide policymakers and business leaders with a basis for making informed decisions. We prepare economic findings in such a way that the media and the public can understand and classify current economic and political events. The people at the ifo Institute, its supporters, and its committees make it possible to fulfill our mission. Our close cooperation with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich is an important basis for our success. Research at ifo combines academic excellence with economic policy relevance. Five fields of action form the basis for this bridge building: research, policy advice, information and services, participation in public debates, and development of junior economists. In all these areas we aim to achieve excellence. Our five fields of action are closely interlinked: research is the basis for policy advice. And we can participate in public debates on the basis of newly gained knowledge. Young economists make a significant contribution to achieving excellent research results. The development of junior economists is particularly important to us. The ifo Institute’s activities in the area of information and services in turn ensure that our findings reach the various stakeholder groups: through events, media work, or publications.

#Produktivität #KI #Innovation #Digitalisierung #AIAct #Wirtschaft #ZukunftGestalten ifo Institute – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Manuel Menkhoff Thomas Licht Dr. Anna Kerkhof

We’re proud to see another example of how our young economists are making a real impact in shaping key discussions across Europe. Marcel Schlepper, your work, alongside our team’s collaboration with leading stakeholders, truly reflects our mission to bring meaningful research into public debate. We wish you all the best as you continue this important work, and we look forward to future opportunities to collaborate in our shared pursuit of a prosperous future. 🤝
After three years, today marks my last day as an economist at the ifo Institute – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. The ifo has provided me with an optimal environment to conduct my research on defence and conflicts. In 2023, I was asked to lead the project “New Geoeconomics and Defence Spending in Europe” and I am incredibly proud that we managed to establish the ifo as a major player in defence. The pictures show four of my highlights: - Sharing our work on defence budgets with journalists from ARD and ZDF. - Participating at the first Munich Security Conference side event hosted by the ifo with Clemens Fuest and Dr. Florian Dorn. - Discussing our commissioned study on conscription at the Federal Ministry of Finance with Timo Wochner, Joop Adema, and Panu Poutvaara. - Recording at the ARD-Hauptstadtstudio for my favourite podcast “Streitkräfte & Strategien” with Anna Engelke. For those who want to get beyond the blurry pictures, here are the links to two recent studies: https://lnkd.in/dZSSrXeK and https://lnkd.in/drH_f4rg. I am excited to return to McKinsey & Company next week and to continue there my work for a free and secure Europe. P.S.: This is just one of many similar stories: ifo’s mission is to put its young economists in a position to participate in the public discourse. If this sounds interesting, there are always open PhD positions at ifo – consider applying!
