Declarations such as the Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law by the Council of Europe and the EU AI Act underscore the importance of this issue. However, experts from various fields are still grappling with defining the human rights implications of AI amidst a range of alternative concepts. During a one-day intensive workshop-based event bringing together global stakeholders, we, the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM in partnership with Globethics, aim to address the complex challenges posed by AI in relation to the protection and promotion of human rights by outlining actionable steps to prevent and mitigate human rights violations in AI development. 🆕 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳: 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: 𝟭𝟬 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 As automation scales up, our reliance on it for decision-making increases accordingly. Some of these decisions are ethical decisions- decisions that have tangible impacts on core human values and goals, such as physical integrity or fairness. For example, AI systems in the healthcare sector might recommend how to allocate scarce medical resources. Algorithms utilized in the criminal justice system can help determine sentences or verdicts for offenders. Individuals can ask chatbots, such as ChatGPT, for moral guidance on any personal matters or moral dilemmas. The extent to which intelligent decision-support systems can have a positive or negative influence on humans’ ethical decision-making will depend on how these systems are designed, developed and used. Therefore, in our new Research Brief, the IEAI researcher Franziska Poszler and Isadora De Angeli, outline 10 suggestions for designing intelligent decision-support systems aimed at preserving, and ideally enhancing, users’ ability to make ethical decisions. ➡️You can read and/or download it here: https://lnkd.in/ei4M_6Am #ai #artificialintelligence #aiethics #responsibleai #ethicaldecisions #decisionsupport #ChatGPT #LLMs
