📣 Meet the POSEIDON Project's partners! We are pleased to continue our series of posts dedicated to the introduction of the POSEIDON project consortium. This esteemed collaboration involves 19 partners in 7 countries. It is our privilege to present EDF as a distinguished project partner within this initiative. 🌐 Introducing EDF: A key partner in the POSEIDON project Électricité de France (EDF) is a French multinational electric utility company. With a diverse portfolio encompassing electricity generation, distribution, power plan construction, and energy trading, EDF stands as a global leader, driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. Its commitment to research and development is exemplified by the esteemed EDF Lab Les Renardières. 🫂Role in the Project: EDF is leader of the work package on plant demonstration and fuel testing. It will support the definition of the evaluation methodology and create a cutting-edge Power-to-X test platform at its R&D site Les Renardières to test the e-methanol demonstration plant developed by partner ICODOS. Several test campaigns will be performed to test the innovative technology and produce the fuel needed for the engine tests. What does the UP-TO-ME project aim to achieve? The project has several objectives that will contribute to the overall success of the UP-TO-ME. Some core objectives of the project include: ✔ The fully automated UP-TO-ME technology will run for at least 300 hours ✔ To produce at least 100 litres of methanol using the UP-TO-ME technology ✔ The produced fuel will reduce harmful emissions by 90% ✔ Reduction of the CO2 capture energy requirements of the integrated process by at least 30% compared to conventional amine-based CO2 capture These are just a few of the core objectives of the project. This Friday, the European Investment Bank (EIB) Board of Governors will approve its new Strategic Roadmap for 2024-2027, which will support the EU build leadership and #competitiveness in strategic #cleantech sectors. ✉️ Open Letter: Expand EIB guarantees to unlock EU industrial competitiveness! ✉️ The European Investment Bank (EIB) already plays an essential role filling the investment gap that will modernise the EU’s industrial base and unlock the economic and energy resilience advantages from a net zero economy. Yet, the European Commission sees a €620 billion annual investment need to meet its energy and climate targets - with at least €92 billion required by 2030 to build the manufacturing capacity for only six strategic clean technologies. Together with 39 European cleantech innovators, investors, industry associations, researchers and NGOs, we call on the EIB to support the expansion of its public guarantee that can scale-up Europe's cleantech manufacturing significantly and reinforce the global competitiveness of EU green industry. We do so ahead of the European Investment Bank (EIB)’s Board of Governors meeting this Friday to approve its new 2024-2027 strategic road map. Our message: ⚡ Guarantees can secure Europe’s energy transition 🏛️ The EIB as the EU’s Climate Bank can support the growth of a Green capital market union to deliver Europe’s clean energy future ⚠️ European cleantech manufacturers are turning down orders for lack of bank guarantees ❗ The issue is access, not cost, and European manufacturers are at risk. 💡 The EIB’s counter-guarantee facility is a strong catalyst for a thriving green economy By shifting risk from commercial banks to the EIB’s balance sheet and the European budget, via InvestEU, European banks can offer new guarantee lines for cleantech projects and promote bank lending to emerging cleantech manufacturing. This is a strategic and crucial intervention to address a capital market failure and ensure Europe’s energy system and industry transformation. Thank you, Dr. Marc Seeger, for the insightful summary. Opening with a speech that completely questioned hydrogen was a bold move. I was surprised that half the audience didn’t leave after such a doom-and-gloom perspective. Even though I don’t share his views, Michael Liebreich raised many critical questions that need clarification as we ramp up the hydrogen economy. The day continued with immense energy, excitement, and creativity.
