Pioneering Electrochemical Energy Storage

Info

The Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) is one of the largest Battery Research Centers in Europe. At HIU, our research is focused on investigating and developing next-generation and future-use battery technologies. Our team of more than 135 scientists from around the world is laying the groundwork for sustainable stationary and mobile energy storage. Founded in January of 2011 by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the HIU is a member of the Helmholtz Association (Germany’s largest scientific organization) and has evolved into a partnership of several distinguished organizations: the University of Ulm, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW). Bringing together the unique expertise of our four partner organizations, we are able to stimulate far-reaching and substantial progress in battery research. And to ensure that we make an essential contribution to the larger problem of developing clean energy sources with renewable energy, we emphasize both fundamental and applied research.
