We all know what a party is, but what exactly is a charter party? 🚢 In the shipping industry, a charter party is a contract that sets the rules for renting a vessel. It defines the terms of the voyage, whether it's for a one-time trip or for a set period of time. There are three main parties involved: the shipowner, who owns the vessel, the charterer, who rents the vessel for cargo transportation or sublease, and the shipbroker, who helps finalize the agreement and makes sure everything runs smoothly. These are the are three main types of charter parties: ▶️ Time Charterparty - The charterer rents the ship for a specific period, covering costs like fuel and port fees, while the shipowner provides the vessel and crew. ▶️ Voyage Charterparty - The charterer hires the vessel for a single trip, paying freight, while the owner covers operational costs. ▶️ Bareboat Charterparty - The charterer takes full control of the vessel, including the crew, maintenance, and insurance, while the owner provides only the vessel. At Hapag-Lloyd, we use both our own vessels and chartered vessels to keep global trade moving. Do you know the names of any of these chartered vessels? Share them in the comments! 👇 #HapagLloyd #Shipping #CharterParty #NauticalTerms

Breaking new ground: Achieving the largest breakbulk haul on a single Hapag-Lloyd vessel! 🎉 We are proud to announce the successful loading of 15 prefabricated blast-resistant modules for an oil and gas refinery in Central Europe onto our “Haiphong Express”. Each module, measuring 13.8m in length, 4.25m in width, 3.70m in height, and weighing 23 tons, was efficiently loaded as breakbulk cargo on a mammoth 45x40’ Flat Rack bed in four bays from Jebel Ali, UAE. 🚢 A special thank you to our long-term partner, Dubai-based Fleet Line Shipping Services LLC (FLS), for their unwavering trust in our capabilities to handle project cargo. FLS was also responsible for on-board lashing and securing, which was invaluable to this operation. 🧡 Together, we are setting new standards in handling large project cargo. #hapaglloyd #breakbulk #cargo #container #shipping

What connects our “Prague Express” with the mysteries of ancient palm-leaf manuscripts? The “Prague Express” delivered a unique shipment to India this past June: the Container Lab from the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at Hamburg University! In Puducherry, researchers are using this mobile lab to analyze precious palm-leaf manuscripts, which are part of UNESCO's Memory of the World. On wednesday, our “Prague Express” arrived at Kattupalli Port before continuing its journey through Colombo and Cochin on its way to Valencia. We’re excited to see what exciting cargo it has on board this time! What's the most fascinating cargo you've ever shipped? Share your stories in the comments! #hapaglloyd #container #specialcargo
