Key Highlights: ➡️ 7 winners received financial grants support to augment their working capital. ➡️ 2 months post-bootcamp coaching support to the top 50 women SMEs who received training. ➡️ 3 months of digital publicity exposure for selected SMEs. Impact: ✅ SME participants found the training offered by the program highly relevant, with 78% rating it with 5 stars. ✅ Many implemented skills like personal management, bookkeeping, business planning, and networking. ✅ Several reported business expansion and increased confidence in networking. 🥔 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬- 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐀𝐎 🍠 Our project, Green Innovation Center in Mali, funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH ended in October 2023. The project activities partly focused on the minimization of post-harvest losses, mainly in the Mango and Potato Value Chain. One important activity was the implementation of several cold storage rooms to conserve freshly harvested fruits and potatoes, before the transformation or exportation of these goods. With its activities, the project contributed to this worldwide publication of FAO addressing the question of better #harvesting and #conservation practices. The publication itself highlights the importance of reducing post-harvest losses in developing countries by integrating gender perspectives, providing support to agribusiness and entrepreneurship, and promoting climate change adaptation. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗼𝘀 🌡️🌱 Our team actively participated in the successful mid-term review of our Climate Friendly Agricultural Value Chain Project in #Laos, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. As managers of the Smallholder Financing Scheme (SFS) and Matching Grant Scheme (MGS), we ensured meticulous planning and execution. 🙌 Key achievements: ➡️ Climate-smart agriculture: Supporting businesses in rice milling, bio-fertilizer production, and vegetable packing across six provinces. ➡️ Securing significant funding: USD 1.25 million were approved for 58 agricultural production groups through the SFS, and USD1.7 million in the MGS pipeline for 26 businesses. ➡️ Building capacity: Training for 50 bank credit officers in green finance lending. ➡️ Crop Insurance: Conducting an assessment to provide recommendations for a sustainable crop #insurance facility in Laos. #AFCFinDev #AFClimate #greenfinance Indrajith Wijesiriwardana, Jakob Lutz, MetaMeta, GOPA Consulting Group

The project aims to ensure sustainable, soil-protecting #fodder production. The skills of small and medium-sized farms and research institutes to grow fodder and #seeds based on #agroecological principles are to be strengthened through extension, training, and practical trials. Knowledge exchange between the countries is generated not only through dialogue formats, an important activity in the bilateral cooperation programs of the Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft is the organization of study tours In June 2024, an Uzbek expert delegation from, amongst others, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Veterinary Committee of Uzbekistan, visited different stakeholders of the German and Dutch dairy and seed sector to gather innovations and learn about state-of-the-art technologies. 🌊 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 💧 We were commissioned by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (GIZ) to conduct a pre-feasibility study on typhoon risk insurance to strengthen resilience in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the #Philippines.  Over 12 days, our team covered four MPAs, gathering insights from key stakeholders including fisherfolks, the tourism sector, and MPA management bodies.  “𝘘𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘬𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘗𝘈𝘴”, says one of the interviewees.  The project aims to understand the importance of well-functioning MPAs, key ecosystem risks, and post-typhoon challenges. Our findings from interviews and focus group discussions will inform recommendations for a sustainable way forward.  Blue Finance, an emerging area in Climate Finance, is gaining traction among financial institutions and insurers. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗠𝗘 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 In June, our Team Leader David Odongo met with Henry Bwogi, outgoing Director of Retail & SME Banking at TCB, and Teresia Soka, the incoming Acting Director of Retail & SME Banking at TCB, in #Tanzania.  They discussed the establishment of an Agribusiness Desk and reviewed the Market Segmentation & Product Assessment Report, Capacity Building Plan, Lending Manual and ESMS Review Report. 📈 Lancement des sessions de formation pour le renforcement des capacités de 50 PME féminines de la filière karité ♀ À la fin de juin, la première session de formation du projet de renforcement des capacités de 50 PME dirigées par des femmes dans la production de karité au #BurkinaFaso s'est tenue à Ouagadougou. Ce projet, conduit par GOPA AFC avec son partenaire local AGM CONSULTING SARL, s'inscrit dans le cadre du Programme Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi), initié et financé par The World Bank. Durant ces quatre jours, 30 participantes ont vu leurs compétences renforcées sur des thématiques cruciales telles que la gouvernance coopérative, l'entrepreneuriat, l'éducation financière et l'accès au financement. L'objectif de cette formation était d'améliorer la durabilité et la résilience économique des PME #féminines. Au total, 21 sessions de formation couvrant 7 thématiques différentes seront délivrées aux 50 PME féminines dans le cadre de ce projet de renforcement des capacités. En outre, des études spécifiques seront menées dans la filière karité pour approfondir les connaissances et optimiser les pratiques.
