Are projects more than just work for you? The respondents to the Freelancer Study 2024 clearly say yes. Our experts, Peter Balog and Jon Younger, also note that work is no longer just work - especially for younger generations. The number one value that freelancers expect from the corporate culture of their project providers is sustainability. In second place is equal pay: our newest study shows that the gender pay gap in freelancing is narrowing. Incentives, whether material or financial, are in last place. On the other hand, by far the most common reason for freelancers to reject projects is a low hourly rate. You can find the link to our full report in the comments. How do you see it? Here's an excerpt: PAT PETITTI CEO CATALANT TECHNOLOGIES. “Companies seek ways to get work done better, faster, and more cost effectively. Designing an organization and work force that is agile, flexible, and adapts quickly to change is critical. Freelancers are a powerful way to provide organizations with the flexibility and specialized skill access needed to quickly adjust. How many projects should I work on? Self-employed people, especially those just starting out with freelancing, tend to overload themselves with projects and don't sort out much. Hans Rusinek, who conducts research into New Work, has a clear opinion on how many projects a freelancer should take on: quality over quantity. "In order to build up expert status, you have to set limits - and these start with the selection of projects." If you want to learn more about how to build up expert status, you can read through our latest study (link in the comments). How do you see it? Have you ever overloaded yourself with projects, or is project acquisition still a problem? Change of perspective: What do companies think about freelancing? The Freelancer Study 2024 revealed that a third of respondents last worked for a large company or corporation. But why is it that small and medium-sized companies do not rely on freelancing as much as the big ones do? There may be several reasons for this. Small and medium-sized companies may rely less on freelancers because they have more limited resources, rely more on internal staff, and may have concerns about control and quality. In contrast, large companies benefit from their larger budgets for external services and can utilize the flexibility and expertise of freelancers without having to make long-term commitments. They can also access specialized skills that may not be available in-house. Outsourcing is therefore more prevalent in large companies. More facts inside our Freelancer Study 2024. The link is in the comments. To all recruiters: Why don't you work with freelancers? And why do you? Let us know your opinion in the comments. Unlike traditional employees, freelancers have the unique advantage of working for multiple clients simultaneously. This flexibility allows them to diversify their skills, expand their professional network, and increase their income potential. According to our latest study, 66% of freelancers work on 2 to 6 projects per year on average. However, this freedom also comes with its own set of challenges. Juggling multiple projects requires excellent time management, communication skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to different clients' needs and expectations. For those considering the freelancing path, mastering this balance is essential for success. To discover more interesting facts about freelancing, check out our brand new study (link in the comments). Do you complete more or fewer projects compared to other freelancers? The current laws often treat freelancers like regular businesses or gig workers for platforms. In 2024, 75% of respondents to the Freelancer Study still say that politicians are not creating the right framework conditions. Only 9% have no problem with this, while 16% avoid the question. But why is this? And why do we keep getting a negative answer to this question from freelancers year after year? Quite simply because too little is changing. Freelancing involves bureaucracy, fixed deadlines, and risk, since insurance is up to the individual. Permanent employees don't face these issues. Some might say, "It's their own fault; they chose this path." But is the solution really to make self-employment an unattractive career option - especially when 89% would choose self-employment again? We believe there is a better way. Freelancing is the backbone of tomorrow's workforce. See what others think about this topic in our newest study (link in the comments). What do you think? Do freelancers really have only advantages over permanent employees? The answer is NO. Self-employment carries a number of risks. From a financial point of view, freelance work is better paid, but what happens on days when the freelancer is ill? Or goes on holiday? Quite simply, absences are not paid. The biggest disadvantage for freelancers is the contractual risk, which they are not familiar with from their permanent jobs. What is your experience as a freelancer? What disadvantages have you experienced so far? In our newest Freelancer Study 2024 you can find more insights about the topic “freelancers vs. employees” - link in the comments! #freelancing #freelancer #freelance #selfemployed #selfemployment #newwork #futureofwork #freelancerevolution #freelancerstudy2024 #freelancerproblems #freelanceexperience #freelancedisadvantages #freelancerisks
