Congrats to our researchers for winning FKTG e.V.‘s "Innovation Award for Media Technology in IT"! The award-winning team consisted of Decai Chen, Prof. Peter Eisert, Feldmann Ingo, Arne Finn, Dr. Anna Hilsmann, Peter Kauff, Wieland Morgenstern, Dr. Oliver Schreer, Dr. Ralf Schäfer and Marcus Zepp. "The award represents a great achievement across different research groups at Fraunhofer HHI", emphasized Ingo Feldmann, who accepted the award in Mainz on behalf of the entire team. They were honored for their work on 3D Human Body Reconstruction #3DHBR as a basic technology for #VolumetricScanning. 3D HBR captures real people simultaneously with multiple cameras and uses the video data to create dynamic 3D models that move naturally and can be viewed from any vantage point in the virtual world. I'm proud to have presented my first paper at #CVPR2024! Thanks for all the encouraging and motivating feedback from all people coming by! Also many thanks for all the help from Arian Beckmann, Wieland Morgenstern, Anna Hilsmann, Peter Eisert and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI making this possible! In our work, we allow synthesizing realistic 3D Gaussian Splatting human heads from a GAN latent space for the first time. I'm happy to announce that our paper “BTSeg: Barlow Twins Regularization for Domain Adaptation in Semantic Segmentation” authored by Johannes Künzel, Peter Eisert and myself has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of GCPR 2024! It is based on the work of Johannes Künzel using the Barlow Twin loss for domain adaptation to make semantic segmentation more robust towards weather changes. This is highly relevant for autonomous driving, where semantic segmentation encounters heightened challenges in adverse conditions, including snow, rain, fog, and darkness. I'm excited to announce that we have two papers accepted for publication in the proceedings of ECCV2024! The first paper is entitled “Compact 3D Scene Representation via Self-Organizing Gaussian Grids” authored by Wieland Morgenstern, Florian Barthel, Peter Eisert and myself. It goes back to an idea of Wieland Morgenstern and his deeply enganged work together with Florian Barthel in the past months! We propose a compact scene representation organizing the parameters of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) into a 2D grid with local homogeneity, ensuring a drastic reduction in storage requirements without compromising visual quality during rendering. Additional information can be found on our project page: https://lnkd.in/ebCt6uSf The second paper is entitled “SPVLoc: Semantic Panoramic Viewport Matching for 6D Camera Localization in Unseen Environments” authored by Niklas Gard, Peter Eisert and myself. It was mainly driven by Niklas Gard and his innovative idea of using a new matching approach between panoramic semantic panoramas and RGB images in order to accurately determine the 6D camera pose of a query image and an indoor environment with minimal scene-specific prior knowledge and no scene-specific training. We are excited to announce a closer cooperation with XRBB - Extended Reality Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. - one of the leading German associations in the field of #ExtendedReality. Together, we want to advance the development of #XR and #ImmersiveTechnologies as well as strengthen Berlin’s XR ecosystem. Our "Innovation Center for Immersive Imaging Technologies" (3IT) will play a central role in this collaboration: It will serve both as a meeting place for XRBB’s members and for joint events with Fraunhofer HHI. Members of XRBB will also have the opportunity to exhibit their latest results, demos and products at the 3IT and present them to stakeholders from business, science and politics. 📣 Stay tuned! An important part of our joint venture is establishing two new event formats per year as well as other joint activities. Read more about our successful first joint event & other details of this collaboration: https://lnkd.in/d9smdVXB 📆 Save the date! Our next event "3IT Summit meets XRBB" will take place on October 15, 2024. 🤝 Kudos to the architects of the collaboration Prof. Ralf Schäfer & Kathleen Schroeter as well as Finn Kortenbrede and Zina Ebden.
