🌍 The Olympic Summer Games in Paris: Highlighting the Vital Role of Plastics 🌟 This week, one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the Olympic Summer Games, will start in Paris and athletes from around the globe will compete in more than 30 disciplines. Many of those sports wouldn't be imaginable without high-performing plastics, since they are essential in shoes, clothing, kayaks, swim goggles, spears, and much more. On the one hand, this highlights the wide range of applications for plastics in our lives and their benefits. On the other hand, it emphasizes the importance of establishing a circular economy for plastics… it is crucial to treat plastics as the valuable resources they are and to only waste them as a last resort. We are not there yet, which is why it’s essential to handle plastics consciously. At Fraunhofer CCPE, we are working on sustainable and circular solutions to fully realize the benefits of modern plastics while reducing environmental impact. …and apart from that, we are looking forward to great Olympic Summer Games! 🏅 #FraunhoferCCPE #OlympicGames #Paris2024 #CircularPlastics #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation

After five years of intensive research, the Circular Flooring consortium has proven that phthalate-free PVC recyclates can be produced from old flexible flooring! Thanks to the solvent-based recycling process and the CreaSolv® formulations developed by Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV , a Fraunhofer CCPE Institute, and CreaCycle GmbH, critical plasticizers can be efficiently removed. The recovered PVC complies with EU legislation (REACH) and is ready for the production of new PVC floors. 🌍♻️ The EU-funded Circular Flooring project started in June 2019 and will receive around 5.4 million euros from Horizon 2020 until August 2024. The goal is to gently recycle old PVC floors and recover new, compliant PVC. Eleven companies and research institutions from Germany, Belgium, France, Greece, and Austria are involved. The project is coordinated by Fraunhofer IVV in Freising. #CircularEconomy #Recycling #Sustainability #Innovation #PVC Project Partners: Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV , Germany Akdeniz Chemson Additives AG, Austria AgPR Arbeitsgemeinschaft PVC-Bodenbelag Recycling GbR, Germany Bayerische Forschungsallianz (BayFOR) GmbH, Germany EUROPEAN RESILIENT FLOORING MANUFACTURERS' INSTITUTE, Belgium INSTITUT NATIONAL DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT INDUSTRIEL ET DES RISQUES, France Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium Lober Entsorgung und Logistik mit System Abfallentsorgungs-KG, Germany National Technical University of Athens, Greece Sphera Solutions GmbH, Germany Westlake Vinnolit GmbH & Co. Biopolymers in long-term applications: The market for biopolymers such as polylactic acid (#PLA) is growing rapidly, meaning that in addition to packaging and agricultural films, more and more sophisticated applications made from #biopolymers will become accessible in the future. However, this poses completely new challenges for these modern #plastics: they must last just as long and remain just as stable as their classic petrochemical relatives. Fraunhofer LBF has addressed this issue as part of the Fraunhofer Cluster Circular Plastics Economy CCPE. The present investigations show that PLA is very well suited for long-term use if the right additives are added to prevent premature damage. 📚 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dg-ns65h Authors: Jannik Hallstein, Metzsch-Zilligen Elke, Rudolf Pfaendner 👉 Want to get more information about our projects on the topic of circular additives and compounds: https://lnkd.in/dGskCQTn #circulareconomy
