This morning, climate activists gained illegal access to Frankfurt Airport. The German Federal Police and the Hesse State Police, in cooperation with Airport Security and Frankfurt Airport's fire and emergency department, responded immediately to the incident. For safety reasons, flight operations had to be temporarily suspended for the entire airport as a result of the incident. Since 07:50 AM, all runways have resumed operations. Some 1,400 flights were scheduled for Frankfurt Airport today. Due to the incident, about 140 flights had to be cancelled so far. However, further delays and cancellations can be expected during the day. Therefore, all passengers are requested to check the status of their flight on their airline’s website before traveling to the airport. A spokesperson for Frankfurt Airport said: "We sharply condemn these unauthorized demonstrations and we reserve the right to take legal action against the participants. Their activities pose severe danger to flight operations – possibly putting human life at risk. These illegal activities represent a dangerous interference with air traffic. The perpetrators face severe penalties and high civil claims for damages." Frankfurt Airport's operational area is protected by a 30km-long fence, which is secured by technical systems and regularly patrolled by airport security. In addition, alarm chains have been established to alert the police, the airport’s operator and air traffic control immediately if an intrusion into the security-relevant area is detected. The primary objective of this system is to prevent harm to others and to ensure that intruders can be apprehended quickly and safely. #frankfurtairport #fraport #frankfurt

Für uns als Flughafenbetreiber steht die Sicherheit unserer Passagiere und Beschäftigten ganz klar an erster Stelle. Aktionen wie diese gefährden jedoch den Betrieb eklatant – und damit auch Menschenleben! Wir werden uns deshalb rechtliche Schritte gegen die Verursacher vorbehalten. Ihnen drohen empfindliche Strafen. Zugleich geht ein großer Dank an alle Flughafenbeschäftigten! Die polizeilichen Einsatzkräfte, die Flughafenfeuerwehr und unser Sicherheitspersonal haben unmittelbar auf den Vorfall reagiert, um die Sicherheit aller Personen am Flughafen Frankfurt zu gewährleisten. Ihnen haben wir es auch zu verdanken, dass sämtliche Start- und Landebahnen schnellstmöglich wieder in Betrieb gehen konnten. Dennoch mussten bis zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt bereits 140 Flüge gestrichen werden. Dazu kommen Verzögerungen im Betrieb, die sich über den Tag ziehen werden. Just in time for summer travel season, Fraport opens additional security checkpoints equipped with modern CT (computer tomography) #technology at Frankfurt Airport. This time, the new checkpoints have been installed in Departures B-West of Terminal 1, where some 35,000 passengers on 200 flights depart every day. The CT scanners allow passengers to keep their electronic devices and liquids in their hand luggage without having to present them separately. This ensures faster and more convenient checks. Since the beginning of the rollout, the CT technology has proven its worth for FRA. “On the busy travel days during the recent Easter and Whitsun school vacations, there were no significant waiting times for passengers at the security checkpoints. For the upcoming summer peak season, we are now offering our customers and guests a smoother and faster experience at these busy checkpoints while maintaining the high levels of security standards”, says Pierre Dominique Prümm, Fraport AG’s Executive Director Aviation and Infrastructure.
