We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the FKFS Academy training courses of 2024: The last course, 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, just finished!✨ 🚀 🎉 Yesterday, André Casal Kulzer, Prof. Dr.-Ing. and Hans-Jürgen Berner held this course for the first time, providing a comprehensive understanding of hydrogen in automotive development. They let participants delve into the challenges and opportunities related to hydrogen production, transport, storage, and application. It's official: We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new climatic wind tunnel center! 🏎️💨 Located in Filderstadt-Bonlanden, this state-of-the-art facility will be our second FKFS location, boasting excellent connections to the highway and airport. ✈️🚗 We're expanding our capabilities with this impressive climatic wind tunnel, which can reach speeds of up to 265 km/h and 750 kW drive power on 2 axles, operating in temperatures between 15°C and 55°C. Plus, it features a DC fast charging column with 350 kW power. ⚡️ The center also includes a climate chamber with dynamometer and solar simulation, accommodating temperatures from -35°C to 55°C. ❄️ 🌞 Our goal is to modernize the test benches and consolidate all activities in thermal management and comfort at this site, creating a premier 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭. 🚗⚡ Electrification of Mobility II – Introduction to Electric Drive and Energy Storage Systems just ended yesterday! 🎓 It was the second course of the FKFS Academy, led by Prof. Giorgio Rizzoni from The Ohio State University. This course was designed for engineers and researchers, aiming to gain deep insight into the xEV technology and the challenges and opportunities associated with e-mobility. Over two days, participants got a comprehensive introduction without needing significant prior knowledge. The course combined theoretical lectures with practical exercises. 🛠️ Participants had the chance to dive into the simulated performance of a battery electric vehicle using a simulator. 🚗🌐 Exciting News! 🌐🚗 This week, we had the pleasure of kicking off the SALSA project - "Smarte, Adaptive und Lernbare Systeme für Alle" (translates to: Smart, Adaptive, and Learning Systems for All). This innovative project is funded by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz and is a collaborative effort involving 16 partners. In the near future, automated, autonomous, and conventional vehicles will coexist in road traffic, sharing the space with pedestrians 🚶♂️🚶♀️, cyclists 🚴♂️🚴♀️, and other vehicle variants 🛴🛵. However, a lack of interaction, non-standardized communication, and implausible driving behavior could lead to challenging situations and lower acceptance of these technologies. SALSA aims to tackle these challenges by bridging the gap between vehicles and other road users, and between vehicle occupants and technology. Our role in this project is to evaluate driving behavior in mixed traffic 🚗🚴♂️🚶♀️. We aim to give passengers a high level of confidence towards vehicle systems, ensuring a safe and sovereign driving experience. Simultaneously, driving behavior should be cooperative and predictable for other road users. This evaluation will be conducted through studies in our state-of-the-art driving simulator! As a token of our appreciation, we wanted to give our speakers and session chairs a little thank you. Just like last year, we decided to have a tree planted for each of them with the help of the German Forest Protection Association (Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald). 🌲🌿 Why trees? Because greenery and forests are crucial – not only as habitats for animals but also for us humans and especially for the climate. 🌍 After their presentations, each speaker and session chair received a certificate for one tree planted in their name - 170 in total - printed on sustainable grass paper. 🍃📝 We hope to have created something truly sustainable. If you have the chance, visit Schömberg or Unterreichenbach near Bad Liebenzell in Baden-Württemberg to see the growing forest! Last night, Daimler Truck wrapped up the final Technology Leaders event of this summer. 🚛👏 Dr. Dalibor Dudic, Head of Projects Mercedes-Benz Trucks, welcomed around 130 participants.
