🚍🌍 Last Sunday, the RABus project, together with many committed citizens and partners, made a strong statement for the future of mobility at the #ParkingDay in Friedrichshafen as part of the #EuropeanMobilityWeek. The highly automated shuttle was a highlight and attracted many interested visitors. Together with colleagues from Autonomous Everything @ ZF and Institut für Verkehrswesen (KIT), we provided information about the functioning of the "living lab" and the future perspectives of autonomous driving. 🚗💡 🚌 Additionally, STADTWERK AM SEE was also present with their diesel-hybrid e-bus, and IWT Wirtschaft und Technik GmbH shared insights into the #Friedrichshafen test field and the TIMTransformationNetwork. With our second location, we are expanding our capabilities with an impressive climatic wind tunnel, which can reach speeds of up to 265 km/h and 750 kW drive power on 2 axles, operating in temperatures between 10°C and 55°C. Plus, it features a DC fast charging column with 350 kW power. 🤯 The center also includes a climate chamber with dynamometer and solar simulation, with temperatures ranging from -30°C to 55°C. ❄️🌞 Feel free to contact us via mail at [email protected]! FKFS was proud to be represented at the Driving Simulation Conference in Strasbourg, 🇫🇷 from 18 to 20 September:   📌Andreas Dieing presented a new modelling method for steering wheel feeling, combining a physical model and a neural network. This allows an exact representation of the mechanical properties of real steering systems in motion base simulators, such as our Stuttgart Driving Simulator. 📌 Dr.-Ing. Marco Scheffmann and Alia Salah presented their newly developed approach for “Fault Detection and Recovery for Automotive Perception Sensors Based on AI and Regarding Driver Comfort”. Their research, part of the SofDCar project, uses a unique co-simulation environment to analyze faulty lidar measurements, detect them and recover distance information.   📌 Lukas Lang presented a poster on "Concept of Machine Learning-Based Scene Classification with Real and Simulated Radar Data." Based on Unreal Engine and CARLA, this method allows interactive testing of Radar based driving functions in driving simulators.   📌 Gerd Baumann moderated the scientific session on Motion Cueing Algorithms, containing 5 high-quality presentations from OEMs and universities. Motion cueing is crucial for ensuring realistic depiction of vehicle motion in dynamic driving simulators.   Our team had a fantastic time exchanging ideas with project partners and service providers in the field of driving simulation throughout the conference and at the FKFS booth. Last week, SBI Schreiber, Brand und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH hosted the 20th Test Facility Forum in Frankenthal. The forum offered a wide range of exciting presentations on all aspects of test facilities - from planning to operation. 💡 FKFS was represented by two speakers: 🚀 Martin Briem spoke about the past, present and future of the hydrogen infrastructure at FKFS. 🚀 Daniel Zeitvogel presented how handling characteristics are investigated on the Handling Roadway. The event was rounded off by a well-organized social program, including a visit to the Dr. Carl Benz Automuseum. The inauguration of the "Center for Climate Comfort", our second location in Filderstadt was a blast! 🎉 The celebration on Wednesday marks a significant milestone for FKFS as we continue to grow our research and service capabilities. Around 90 esteemed guests from industry and politics joined us to celebrate this important occasion. Andreas Wagner opened the event with a speech, highlighting the value of our new site, where advanced climate testing and research will take place.   🎤 We were honored to have Michael Kleiner, Ministerial Director of Baden-Württemberg’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, and Tourism, emphasize how this investment strengthens innovation in the automotive industry 🚗. Additionally, Filderstadt’s Mayor, Christoph Traub, praised the potential of the new facility, both economically and in terms of research contributions to society.   🏭 A special moment was shared by Dr. Hauke Stumpf from Porsche, who reflected on the center's history and its exciting future. With our advanced climatic wind tunnel, we are now able to test larger vehicles, such as trucks and buses 🚛.   🔜 As we prepare the future improvements of the facilities and are looking forward to welcome our customers for testing in October, we are grateful for all the support and enthusiasm we’ve received.
