Congratulations Patricia König, PhD students at the Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in the Theory Department, for winning the best pitch presentation on hydrogen technologies at the #SPP2080 PhD Meeting in Barcelona! #PhDMeeting #SPP2080 #HydrogenTechnologies #RenewableEnergies
🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring PhD Meeting in Barcelona! 🌟 Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the #SPP2080 PhD Meeting in the dynamic city of Barcelona. This event was a perfect blend of academic and industry research insights, focusing on innovative solutions to the energy crisis, particularly hydrogen production in Spain — a crucial step in the transition to renewable energy. Personal highlights of the program for me included visits to the Messer Technische Gase Company in Tarragona, a guided tour of the ALBA Synchrotron, the Hydrogen Lab at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and the SuperComputing Lab at ICIQ. Beyond the scientific agenda, I also enjoyed the exchange with fellow students and the delicious Spanish cuisine. A special thank you to the main organizers (Lorena Baumgarten, Anton Kaus and Linda Klag) for putting together such a fantastic PhD school. I'm excited to announce that my team (Muzaffar Maksumov, Tobias Beger, Fionn Collins and Badr Elkamash) won the award for the best pitch presentation on hydrogen technologies! 🎉 As I pursue my PhD in atomistic modeling of Solid Oxide Electrolysers, understanding the broader context like industrial application is essential in basic research. These insights have further motivated my commitment to energy research! 🌍🔋 #PhDMeeting #SPP2080 #HydrogenTechnologies #RenewableEnergy #Barcelona #Research #Innovation #Sustainability

🌿 When ions go hiking: New Insights into Solvation Kinetics at Electrocatalyst Surfaces 🌿 The Interface Science Department of the Fritz-Haber Institute at the Max Planck Society has made additional strides toward "Exploring Dynamic Solvation Kinetics at Electrocatalyst Surfaces," as detailed in their article in the prestigious journal Nature Portfolio Communications. 📚 Link to the Article: https://lnkd.in/dXRHW3gN Among other reactions, the researcher focused on the ion solvation kinetics when evolving green hydrogen 🌱 and when oxidizing green ammonia 🌿, two key chemicals in the green energy transitions. These findings are important because they help us better understand the pathways that electrolyte ions take on their way toward solid surfaces. Knowing the valleys and mountains 🏞️ and the number of trails 🛤️ that the ion is encountering is crucial for developing more efficient batteries 🔋 and electrolyzers or to fight corrosion. Imagine, we could follow and even control the ion’s hiking trail 🥾 to create more eco-friendly, durable and powerful energy sources – these new insights bring us closer to that goal. 🌍✨ https://lnkd.in/dYDN8pRg
