From November 4-6, we started our #Co_Working seminar and Applied Logistics Research training in our #EMNET project. At the beginning a three-day hybrid event connecting eight students at Technische Universität Berlin with eight students at Addis Ababa University. Together, we're exploring the powerful intersection of the relevance of #circular_economy and #logistics in #Ethiopia, with a particular focus on female empowerment in a field that drives sustainable transformation. Our sessions sparked fruitful discussions with Prof. Dr. Frank Straube and Dr. Benjamin Nitsche about Logistics; we discussed the 10-R strategies of Circular Economy and the meaning in the transformation and gender equity with Bezawit Negash, Kitessa Busha, and Martin Harz-Vrátil setting a strong foundation for impactful collaboration. The program features two key case studies: - Kubik, Inc. : Plastic Waste as a Resource – tackling the optimization of plastic waste collection in Ethiopia. - Circular transformation in shift countries of global north as simulation supported by the LEARN Logistics | by Kühne Foundation focusing on sustainable practices. The frame of fruitful intercultural co-creating new future approaches of #Logistics and Supply-Chain Management was contributed by the inspiration from Angelica Coll and Kidist Girma - talking about the relevance of #cultural_awareness and #fostering_skills. Special thanks go to Kühne Foundation and Dr. Julia Kleineidam and Wolf-Christian Noske, who will facilitate the simulation, as well to the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst to enable this chance at the #EMNET project. With four intercultural teams already starting the case study work, we’re excited to reunite in Addis on November 25th to continue this journey toward innovative, sustainable solutions in Addis Ababa.

🌍 Last Monday, the EMNET project team had an insightful visit to Berliner Stadtreinigung Recycling and Berlin Recycling GmbH. We engaged in exciting #exchanges and comparisons between the Global North and South, discussing sustainable development and key topics such as diversity management and #female_empowerment in #logistics. Following an interactive discussion at the headquarters, we toured the #Westhafen facility to observe paper, cardboard, and glass collection processes. We then visited NochMall, an exemplary site for #reuse and #repair practices in the circular economy. We also discussed further strategic projects such as BSR's Zero-Waste Agency and #Kiez_Locker initiative. Looking forward to continued progress and collaboration for a sustainable future! ♻️🌱 Our team was represented by Martin Harz-Vrátil Harz-Vratil from TU Berlin and Dr. Kitessa Busha from our partner Addis Ababa University. Special thanks for arranging this insights to Steve Paßlack from Berlin-Recycling and Tobias Schüler from BSR. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #GlobalExchange #Reuse #WasteManagement #ZeroWaste #FemaleEmpowerment #DiversityManagement #SustainableDevelopment #EMNETProject #Berlin

We are pleased to announce the successful kick-off and official start of a tailored one-year mentoring program for women in logistics in Ethiopia. This pilot project marks a significant step towards gender equity in the male dominated sector. The launch event took place last Wednesday, following a week of essential preparatory activities. Tuesday featured methodical onboarding for mentors, while last Friday included an awareness training session. This rigorous preparation ensured a strong foundation for the program's success. This #initiative began with a comprehensive needs analysis in February, leading to the formal kick-off in September 2023. We received an overwhelming response, with over 60 applications from prospective mentees and 45 from potential mentors. We are delighted to start with 22 selected mentees and 18 mentors. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, especially to our colleagues Angelica Coll Dr. Benjamin Nitsche and Martin Harz-Vrátil in cooperation with Bezawit Negash and Dr Busha Temesgen from Addis Ababa University Let us work together to promote #gender #equity in Ethiopian logistics. #WomenInLogistics #Mentorship #GenderEquity #EMNET EMNET is a project funded by the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - and coordinated by the Chair of Logistics at the- Technische Universität Berlin under the lead of Prof. Dr. Frank Straube.

Yesterday, the EMNET Project, coordinated by the Chair of Logistics at TU Berlin and funded by DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst , hosted an insightful workshop "Uncovering #Challenges and #Opportunities in Ethiopia's Circular Supply Chains." The event brought together 15 representatives from Ethiopian enterprises in logistics and circular economy. It was moderated by our colleague Martin Harz-Vrátil in collaboration with Angelica Coll, Bezawit Negash and Dr Busha Temesgen from Addis Ababa University We discussed the current relevance of the #CircularEconomy in Ethiopia, the 10 R Strategies of CE, as the survey results as well the role of #Logistics' in Ethiopia. Key obstacles identified in the first round of the workshop included infrastructure limitations, regulatory challenges, and market dynamics. Participants also collaborated on strategies to overcome these hurdles as second round, emphasizing education, knowledge, awareness, infrastructure improvements and other aspects. We will use this diverse and extensive input for next research. Thank you to all participants for your engagement and contributions. Enthusiasm for Logistics: A Look Back at the Long Night of Sciences On June 22, our integrative logistics laboratory once again opened its doors for the Long Night of Sciences, attracting visitors of all ages. Our staff showcased various aspects of logistics and its practical applications in an engaging manner. Prof. Dr. Frank Straube, head of our chair, was delighted by the large turnout: "The Long Night of Sciences offers us a wonderful opportunity to make the fascinating world of logistics accessible to a broad audience. It is impressive to see how big the interest is in our practical insights into this versatile discipline." A special highlight of the evening was the stamp program for young researchers. Children and teenagers had the chance to collect stamps for their junior researcher passports through various experiments. This initiative allowed young participants to discover the world of logistics in a playful way and take home a colorful reminder of their scientific experiences. The Long Night of Sciences was a great success for us and a testament to the fascination and commitment that logistics can inspire. We thank all visitors for their interest and look forward to the next opportunity to share our passion for logistics. See you next year at the Long Night of Sciences – we are excited about the upcoming encounters and discoveries! Fotoquelle: TU Berlin/Felix Noak
