🌍 Logistics as the key to development in sub-Saharan Africa: New paths for economic growth and sustainable employment 🌍 In an increasingly globalized world, the equal participation of the African continent in the creation of globally networked value creation systems is indispensable. Logistics plays a decisive role in this and can be a driver for economic growth, prosperity, sustainable jobs and social justice. The new study "The Future of Logistics Networks with African Countries: Embracing the Potential" was published by our Chair of Logistics at TU Berlin. It examines the role of logistics in the development and global networking of the African continent and is the product of a cooperation with the Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana) as well as the University of Rwanda. The study analyzes the current state of logistics in sub-Saharan African countries and identifies challenges that need to be overcome, including high logistics costs, inefficient processes, inadequate infrastructure and more. Country comparisons of Ethiopia, Rwanda and Ghana illustrate the specific logistics requirements for the region. The studies also focus on the role of logistics in intra-African trade and the development of logistics corridors. The studies are linked to the requirements of selected industries (automotive, food and textile industries) as well as digital technologies and their status quo. Clear fields of action for improving logistics performance and a roadmap are derived. Recommendations for action are given on how process and network design, digitalization and environmental and social sustainability should be driven forward in order to improve logistics performance. It becomes clear that the important future topics of economic and social transformation can only be addressed through joint cooperation between industry, science and politics. The study was made possible by the support of the Kühne Foundation and cooperation with various companies, associations and institutions (including BMZ, DAAD, GIZ, VDA, AAAM, the Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft, SAFRI and many more). The study and further information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e6RaBbq5 The core team of authors is at your disposal: Prof. Dr. Frank Straube ([email protected]), PD Dr. Benjamin Nitsche ([email protected]) and Angelica Coll, M.Sc.
