The European X-ray Free Electron Laser (European XFEL) is an international X-ray research laser facility located in the German federal states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. A scientific user facility, the European XFEL generates high-intensity X-ray laser pulses for researchers across the world. The European XFEL is managed by a nonprofit company, European XFEL GmbH, and is supported by 12 member states: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
