𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝟮𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 🤝 On June 21, Mareike Deggelmann traveled south to take part at the "Tag des offenen Technikums" at Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Freising. The Fraunhofer IVV develops high-quality food and safe packaging. The focus here is on high quality and convenient handling. The Fraunhofer IVV's fields of research range from process development for plant-based raw materials and foodstuffs to polymer recycling and much more. There she gained exciting insights into current research and development projects in food technology. One highlight of her visit was the project to create a database that records the functionalities of a wide range of plant-based raw materials. 📊 This database should not only take into account different varieties, but also different suppliers and origins. This is a crucial issue for companies that rely on plant-based products. Recipes often have to be adapted because the functionalities of the raw materials vary strongly. A publicly accessible database would be a major step forward here! Afterwards, Mareike Deggelmann moved on to the food start-up Happy Ocean Foods, which is a member of two EurA innovation networks: Biomass2Food and #next2Enzyme. The Munich-based start-up focuses on the development and production of #plant-based alternatives to #fish and #seafood. Its mission is to restore the ecological balance of the oceans and contribute to environmental protection. There she met with Christina H. to discuss new ideas and projects. Together they discussed which funding could support Happy Ocean Foods' innovative projects. It was very nice to meet the contact persons from Fraunhofer IVV - Christian Zacherl, Peter Muranyi and Dr. Stephanie Mittermaier - as well as Christina Hahn from Happy Ocean Foods in person.😊 Further visits to the network partners are being planned! There was a lot to celebrate: not only our annual company meeting was the occasion, but also the 25th anniversary of EurA. These were the highlights:  🎉 A review of the last 25 years of company history by the Management Board and various colleagues.  🎉 Our spectacular 25th anniversary EurA cake.   🎉 Great performances by the branches, which provided a lot of fun and entertainment.   🎉 The joint celebration in the festival tent with a band, good food and drinks.  🎉 Seeing colleagues from all branches in person and catching up.  The event was not only an opportunity to look back at the past, but also to make plans for the future and look forward to what EurA can achieve. 🔋𝗘𝗨 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁: 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗻𝗼𝘄🔋   The EU's new battery regulation has been in force since February. Battery manufacturers must be transparent about the carbon footprint of their products. Whether electric vehicle batteries, industrial batteries or batteries for light transport vehicles, certain obligations will gradually apply until 2030.   Levin Winzinger has summarised the most important information in the blog article:   🔹𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: from now on, batteries will require an electronic document to promote transparency, comparability and traceability among consumers, manufacturers and authorities. The passport contains key information about the battery, such as its composition, power and recyclability.   🔹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A detailed declaration on the carbon footprint and its calculation is required for batteries. The declaration serves to comply with legal requirements. It includes detailed information on the carbon footprint and requires verification by a third party.   🔹 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁: This is done in g CO2eq/kWh. The framework conditions are developed and published by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. Separate calculation rules are developed for each battery type and published at least one year before the deadline.   🔹𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬: Specific obligations will gradually come into force for different battery types.
