📊 Procurement channels for PV components and their shares in installers’ procurement strategies: insights from selected markets from the PV InstallerMonitor© 2023/2024 | EES InstallerMonitor© 2023/2024 Although wholesale once again represents the predominant channel for purchasing PV components, the distribution of the number of components purchased in 2023 by procurement channel varies among the surveyed European markets. 📚 Among the European installation companies surveyed for the 2023/2024 study, the average share of PV modules purchased via wholesalers ranges from 59 percent in Germany to 87 percent in Spain and Portugal (analyzed jointly). Considering all surveyed countries, the highest share is reached  in Australia with an average of 88 percent. 📈 As can be seen from the graph, the share of indirect procurement tends to rise when other PV components (inverters, mounting systems, storage systems) are considered. Also, apart from Germany, the share of indirectly procured PV modules has increased compared to the 2022/2023 survey in all the displayed markets. 👷 If we shift the focus to individual wholesalers, it is interesting to note that in several markets, installers choose different wholesalers for modules and inverters (and vice versa), and in general tend to buy components from a higher number of different suppliers: installers seem to have adopted diversification strategies in relation to supply channels of PV components. 🔍 In Australia, for example, the average distribution depth of PV module wholesalers (which represents the share of customers who turn to the wholesaler for almost all the modules they buy), has declined from 53 percent in the 2022/2023 report to about 45 percent in current one: this  indicates that installation companies tend to rely on two or more wholesalers to purchase PV modules to a greater extent than in the past. A similar trend can be observed for the other PV components. 👉 We are happy to offer a more in-depth analysis of the procurement channels for PV components and the different wholesalers active in each market in the PV InstallerMonitor© | EES InstallerMonitor© 2023/2024, which is now available for all 14 surveyed countries*: Australia, Austria & Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark & Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal & Spain, and the UK. https://zurl.co/1Iz4 For any queries, please contact Saif Islam, Andrea B. or Julia Eversmann.

🚗🔄⚡The Future of EV charging is #Smart and #Bidirectional However, to tap the full exciting potential of #V2X,  barriers impeding its development and deployment need to be overcome. Europe's energy system requires flexibility and bidirectional charging supports this by turning electric vehicles (EVs) into decentralized energy resources. Thanks to their extensive energy storage capabilities, they facilitate the further integration of renewables, the balancing of supply and demand, and the optimization of the electricity infrastructure.   Bidirectional Charging is also highly anticipated, especially among Prosumers. Lack of #V2X capability was among the main reasons for the (non-)recommendation of BEVs and Charging Stations according to our survey of charging station installers1. Furthermore, 2/3rds of the charging station owners we surveyed in our SolarProsumerMonitor© 2023/2024, state they would “very likely” purchase a new Charger with bidirectional capability given technical and legal feasibility[2]. https://zurl.co/jKqF Milestones to reach the full potential of Bidirectional Charging are the adoption of a smart regulatory framework, technology & market readiness, and increased knowledge and information among the public.   ⚖️Regulations & Policies: Most countries' legal contexts are not ready for V2G, causing financial disincentives such as double taxation of stored energy. Harmonized policies and clear guidelines across Europe are essential to streamline V2G adoption and drive investment and development. Important legislations towards setting the legal context for Smart & Bi-Directional Charging have been passed in 2024 – a summary of these is in our previous post: https://lnkd.in/dT2K2QhJ   🚗Technology & Price: Concerns include battery depreciation and the high price tag of bidirectional chargers. The technology is still nascent, leading to higher costs due to limited production and advanced specifications. Innovations in battery tech and economies of scale should help reduce costs, with research addressing battery life and efficiency.   💡Interest: As mentioned, strong interest from #prosumers indicates a market anticipating V2X, contingent on overcoming barriers. At the same time, the wider public also needs to be informed about bidirectional charging.   What are your thoughts on Bidirectional Charging?   1: For further information on EV Charging, check our EV Charging Stations InstallerMonitor© 2023/2024: https://lnkd.in/dgQBkyRE 2: For more insights on prosumer preferences, check out our SolarProsumerMonitor© 2023/2024: https://lnkd.in/dUhQUkMf     #BiDirectionalCharging #pv #SectorCoupling #EV #Sustainability #BEV #Renewables

🚗🔄⚡ Bi-Directional Charging as a Crucial Market Differentiator The future of complete energy solutions and sector coupling lies in bi-directional charging. While the legislative environment still needs improvements and optimization (as we discussed in last week's post: https://lnkd.in/dT2K2QhJ), this topic is becoming increasingly salient.    The SolarProsumerMonitor©, for which we gathered insights from over 6,000 prosumers in Germany, providescompelling data on this trend. 🔍 Key Findings from the Survey: Bi-Directional Charging in EVs:  One of the top 5 reasons for not recommending a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) brand is the lack of bi-directional charging. In response, more car manufacturers are integrating this feature into their new models. Car batteries, being much larger than conventional PV battery storage, offer significant potential for energy management and storage.   Charging Station Preferences:  The second most-mentioned reason for not recommending a charging station brand is the lack of bi-directional charging. While connecting charging stations to PV systems for optimal solar charging is common, using the BEV battery to power one's home is not yet widespread. The charging station is the crucial link between the BEV and one's house, without which bidirectional charging is not possible, thus allowing for the optimization of one's energy consumption.   Future Purchase Intentions:  We asked charging station owners about their likelihood of purchasing a new charging station, with bi-directional charging capability (assuming legal and technical feasibility). Their answer was a resounding yes — two thirds stated they would be (very) likely to make the purchase. This indicates that even among existing charging station owners, the availability of bidirectional charging is a key motivator for upgrading to newer models.   As the data suggests, bi-directional charging is not just a technical innovation but a crucial market differentiator that aligns with the evolving needs and preferences of solar prosumers. It is clear that bidirectional charging has the potential to drive significant changes in the market, paving the way for more integrated and efficient energy solutions.   For further information on EV Charging, check our EV Charging Stations InstallerMonitor© 2023/2024: https://lnkd.in/dgQBkyRE   For more insights on prosumer preferences, check out our SolarProsumerMonitor© 2023/2024: https://lnkd.in/dUhQUkMf   #BiDirectionalCharging #pv #SectorCoupling #EV #Sustainability #BEV #RenewableEnergy #Energytransition
