The future of solar energy is bright, but what happens when PV panels reach the end of their lifecycle? With an average lifespan of 25-30 years, we're on the brink of a significant influx of solar panel waste. Italian startup 9-Tech is tackling this challenge head-on by transforming this waste into valuable raw materials. As CEO Pietrogiovanni Cerchier says: “It makes no sense to see these raw materials, which cost a lot of energy, time and effort to be extracted, purified and modified, go to landfills.” With innovative technology, the company’s recycling solution recovers up to 90% of the silver, 95% of silicon and nearly 100% of glass and metals from panels. One of the most pressing challenges facing European industry today is finding highly skilled individuals to tackle complex innovation problems.     One solution is our Open Innovation Challenges, which are not only attracting interest from prominent industry actors but are also fast becoming the ‘go-to’ for young professionals looking for real-life, hands-on experiences to increase their employability.     Through our network of 300 industry, RTOs, and academic partners, EIT RawMaterials is ideally positioned to connect with and offer young professionals the opportunity to work on the most complex challenges organisations face.     Consider Maria Victória Luz, a biotechnologist from the SINReM International Master's programme.
