🌍🍽️ Have you ever thought about what it means to decolonise food? Our friend Jagrut Raval takes his audience through his immersive lecture performance "Decolonial Kitchen" to an alternative historical story-world within the global food context. "Decolonial Kitchen is an immersive lecture performance with a culinary intervention that engages the audience in the story of a man named Narad who travelled to Europe from Mughal India in the 17th century. He was an elusive explorer, an itinerant artist, an alchemist, a naturalist and a polymath.  Like all those European explorers and adventurers who travelled to the East in the Age of Discovery, Narad travelled to the West to propagate his golden fruits that give immortality. Inspired from a series of imitation fruits from India in the South Asia collection at Museum am Rothenbaum Kulturen und Künste der Welt (MARKK) in Hamburg, this immersive experience aims to shine light on stories of the people and cultures to whom these museum artifacts once belonged. It is designed using visual elements that immerse the audience in an alternative historical story-world that revolves around Narad’s journey to Europe using a real historical map made in 1647 by an obscure Persian cartographer named Sadiq Isfahani. Specially curated culinary preparations are arranged in one bite portions on this map to consume during the lecture performance." As Jagrut mentions, Decolonial Kitchen is imagined as a place where forgotten stories are cooked and served. 🍲✨ 📅Don't miss the second performance on Thursday, 8th August from 18:00 to 19:30, at the Museum am Rothenbaum Kulturen und Künste der Welt (MARKK), Hamburg! 🎥 You can also check out a short 4-minute film of the performance here: https://lnkd.in/dp6bbutP https://lnkd.in/dSvpcQ-y Credits for photos: Lukas Lüdemann Photography Film Credit: Chanda Gauranga #DecolonialKitchen #CulinaryArts #HistoricalNarratives #ImmersiveExperience #CulturalHeritage #eCommemoration

🌟 The unboxing of our eCommemoration Convention 2024 continues! We are excited to introduce a new format this year: our artist-curator talks! Digital tools that allow us to explore new perspectives of memory, commemoration and history are not “only” XR, Video Games, or Cross-Media projects, in fact often - and in an ideal world always - Digital Art is the framework that encompasses the experiences and pieces we want to discuss. We are honoured to welcome two of the most accomplished women working within the realms of art, technology and cultural practices: Artist Tamiko Thiel, who has continuously been exploring the intersections of space, place and cultural memory, and Ana Brzezińska, XR Curator and Creative Producer currently responsible for Immersive programming at Tribeca Festival in New York City. The talk will be hosted by our long-standing amazing colleague, journalist Deana Mrkaja ! Various panels, hands-on digital experiences, and creative exchanges will once again form the core of our two-day international and interdisciplinary convention, taking place on 26 and 27 September 2024, in Hamburg. The eCommemoration Convention will be live-streamed so everyone can join us online and from abroad! 🌐 On the first day you can also join us in Hamburg for our open-to-the-public events, keep an eye out! 👉 Stay tuned, more panels will be reveled in the following days! Check out more information about the convention following the link: https://lnkd.in/dXtUAV8D #eCC24 #eCommemorationConvention2024 #SavetheDate #DigitalArt #Curation

📢 Today we continue with unboxing the panels of our eCommemoration Convention 2024! Our second panel on 27 September is “Empowering with Historical Space”. 🌏 Historical spaces have always been spaces of empowerment and disempowerment. In the past years, digital content producers and artists working with digital media used the reappraisal of stories that have shaped historical spaces to give marginalized groups a voice.   We are excited to welcome Nadine Jessen long-standing curator at Hamburg’s theatre Kampnagel, and Deepa Mann-Kler, artist and creative director of Belfast XR Festival, to the panel! We are looking forward to a discussion and illustration on how digital projects are able to empower people by utilizing personalized stories of historical places. The panel will be hosted and moderated by the fantastic Malina Florentine Sternberg, Web Content Creator und Moderator. Various panels, hands-on digital experiences, and creative exchanges will once again form the core of our two-day international and interdisciplinary convention, taking place on 26 and 27 September 2024, in Hamburg. 💥 We continue with the unboxing of our panel at the eCommemoration Convention 2024! New Pathways of Spatial Storytelling” is our first panel on 27 September. In the last years, the representation of digital content in exhibitions dealing with history has changed tremendously. Projection mapping and other physical installations of virtual and mixed-reality content promise to create a new and alternative access to history. On the panel, Marco Giovanni Ruzza, Creative Director of Quake - Lisbon Earthquake Centre Centre and Hannah Price, Creative Director of Gunpowder Plot talk about opportunities and challenges of spatial storytelling in the digital age and comment on the changing perception of history through multimedia. We are already looking forward to their great insights!   Various panels, hands-on digital experiences, and creative exchanges will once again form the core of our two-day international and interdisciplinary convention, taking place on 26 and 27 September, 2024, in Hamburg. 🌟 Today we start with unboxing the panels of our eCommemoration Convention 2024! Our first panel on 26 September is “Virtual Environments. Experiencing Historical Landscapes in Open World Games”. 🌏 Digital media dealing with history provides users with access to rendered historical worlds and allows them to experience an atmospheric past. The panel investigates the impact that historical open world games have on our notion of history by giving players the opportunity to explore past worlds “on their own feet”. As speakers we are more than happy to welcome Deborah Papiernik, who has been working with Ubisoft for 25 years, holding various positions in Game Development, Marketing and Business Development, and Dr. Marc Bonner, Post Doc in Game Studies and Media Studies, who lead the project “Open World Structures: Architecture, City- and Landscape in Computer Games” at the University of Cologne. The whole panel will be complemented and moderated by the amazing Nora Beyer, games journalist and jury member of the German Computer Games Award. 📢 It's that time of the year again where we can give you insights into our eCommemoration Convention 2024! 🌟 Various panels, hands-on digital experiences, and creative exchanges will once again form the core of our two-day international and interdisciplinary convention, taking place on 26 and 27 September, 2024, in Hamburg. This year's focus will be on “Spaces of the Past.” At our event, historians, memory workers, digital pioneers, and creative minds from across the globe will meet to discuss the future of representations of history, memory, and memorialisation through new media, immersive approaches and digital arts. We aim to identify the artistic and digital implementations of spatial history in present-day commemorative culture: • To what extent can the redefinition of spaces through XR and MR experiences unlock new perceptions of history-telling? • How do immersive historical exhibitions, open-world video games, XR, and social media challenge practices of commemoration? • And how can artistic-digital approaches alter commemorative practices? Stay tuned and follow us as we unbox our programme week by week! 🎉 The eCommemoration Convention will be live-streamed so everyone can join us online and from abroad! 🌐 On the first day you can also join us in Hamburg for our open-to-the-public events! #eCC24 #eCommemorationConvention2024 #SaveTheDate #Art #DigitalHistory #MixedRealities #AR #VR #XR #VideoGames #Technology

🌟 Exploring "Between Fact and Fiction" at the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss 🌟 This past week, we hosted a thought-provoking talk in partnership with the Stiftung Humboldt Forum titled "Between Fact and Fiction." The talk, moderated by journalist Nhi Le, began with a vivid discussion on “historical truth” and delved into the interplay between history and artificial intelligence.   The rise of AI has reignited a longstanding debate in exhibition work: can history be accurately reconstructed in physical, spatial, or virtual forms? Does media access distort, reshape, or even fabricate history?   Cornelia Thiele highlighted, "AI can make things visible that would otherwise remain unseen, allowing us to reveal hidden aspects at historical sites". Bjoern Lengers remarked, "We quickly turn what we have learnt and experienced into a story phenomenon 'I have now understood and tried it out with AI and filed it away for me' but the development of AI e.g. ChatGPT is insane, the current system is the worst state of the art, as further improvements are constantly being made". Yvonne Zindel noted, "AI will change our understanding of images. We need to learn to distinguish between real and generated images, as they all tell different stories."   The talk offered valuable insights into how AI is changing the landscape of historical storytelling and challenging our notions of authenticity and truth in history.   Thank you to everyone who participated!   #DigitalHistory #AI #AIHistory #eCommemoration #MemoryCulture
