    Did you know? Global CO2 emissions have surged six-fold since 1950, reshaping the landscape of our planet's climate. These trends underscore a profound reality: CO2 emissions are not merely statistics—they're indicative of economic and industrial development. What's the story behind these numbers? In the 1950s, the United States and the countries that later formed the European Union (EU) dominated the global emissions landscape, accounting for over 70% of total annual emissions. However, the tides quickly turned as emerging economies entered the picture. China's economic ascent in the 1970s spurred a surge in CO2 output. From 1950 to 2000, China's emissions skyrocketed by over 4,500%, reaching 3.6 billion tonnes annually by 2000. Similarly, India, Japan, and the broader Asian region experienced exponential emission growth during this period, each witnessing a surge exceeding 1,000%. With great power and resources, however, also comes great responsibility. The next global challenge is to achieve a 100% clean electricity system (defined as zero net greenhouse gas emissions) in 2035 that could put us on a path to economywide net-zero emissions by 2050. #CO2Emissions #ClimateAction #Sustainability #renewableenergy

    “A floating, solar-powered device that can turn contaminated water or seawater into clean hydrogen fuel and purified water, anywhere in the world, has been developed by researchers. The device, developed by researchers at the University of Cambridge, could be useful in resource-limited or off-grid environments, since it works with any open water source and does not require any outside power. It takes its inspiration from photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight into food. However, unlike earlier versions of the "artificial leaf," which could produce green hydrogen fuel from clean water sources, this new device operates from polluted or seawater sources and can produce clean drinking water at the same time. Tests of the device showed it was able to produce clean water from highly polluted water, seawater, and even from the River Cam in central Cambridge. The results are reported in the journal Nature Water. "Bringing together solar fuels production and water purification in a single device is tricky," said Dr. Chanon Pornrungroj from Cambridge's Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, the paper's co-lead author. "Solar-driven water splitting, where water molecules are broken down into hydrogen and oxygen, need to start with totally pure water because any contaminants can poison the catalyst or cause unwanted chemical side-reactions." https://lnkd.in/gKmfH9Fx

    Wind power must remain a European success story.    So far, European manufacturers have accounted for 85% of the EU wind energy market, but they are now facing multiple challenges.     This is why we have presented a Wind Power Action Plan to give the EU wind industry the certainty to scale up, invest, and innovate in Europe.    The plan will speed up permitting procedures and improve auctions to accelerate the deployment of wind energy, and will support the training of skilled workers.     It will also help the wind industry to access to finance and it will make sure our companies operate in a fair and competitive international environment.   The wind industry contributes an estimated €36 to 42 billion to the EU's GDP and has provided 300 000 high-quality green jobs.    We have to fully seize the opportunity presented by this strategic sector.    Learn more about the Wind Power Action Plan ➡️ https://europa.eu/!NWmrxY    #EUGreenDeal #EUDataCrunch
