Did the championship live up to its promise? Recent statistics from the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard manufacturers, who asked more than 5,000 consumers about their attitudes towards the environment and packaging perceptions reveal how much consumers across Europe value eco-friendly packaging: 🇪🇸 Spain: 55% of consumers chose a brand specifically for its packaging. 🇫🇷 France: 51% switched brands due to packaging concerns. 🇩🇪 Germany: 43% bought more products with eco-friendly packaging. 🇪🇺 Europe: Nearly half (48.3%) purchased fewer plastic-packed products. Even in tough economic times, sustainability in packaging stands out as a critical factor. What exactly does this mean? 🤔 1️⃣ circolution works towards a reuse system that benefits both customers and the environment. By comparing the LCAs of single-use and reusable packaging for a given product, we will model scenarios where reusable packaging is ecologically superior to single-use. We need accountable solutions instead of greenwashing. 🌱 2️⃣ From public data on the water and beer reusable system, we know that reusable packaging is ecologically superior to single-use packaging within a certain radius. Based on our current assumptions and data, we believe reuse makes sense within an 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐬 of approximately 300 km. 📈 In this way, we ensure that our reusable packaging provides a real benefit for the environment. 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲’𝐬 𝐏𝐥𝐚s𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 ‼️ Plastic waste has increased continuously in Germany over the last few decades and now amounts to over six million tons per year. 🗑️ If you were to pile up all the plastic waste produced in Germany in a year, the mountain of waste would be as high as the highest mountain in Europe (approx. 5600m). Lined up end to end, you could circle the earth four times. 🏔️🌍 2021, only around 45 percent of waste from plastic packaging are being recycled mechanically - the majority gets recycled for energy, meaning it gets burnt. 😱 From a climate and environmental protection perspective, it is important to recycle more plastic waste mechanically.
