We’re pleased to announce that KEMA Consulting, part of CESI Group, has been chosen as the main consultancy provider for TenneT’s offshore grid expansion in the Netherlands! Under a framework agreement valued at up to €7 million, KEMA will deliver engineering support for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations, which are critical for connecting offshore wind farms to the national grid. This is a significant step forward in the energy transition, helping TenneT meet its ambitious goal of connecting multiple wind farms by 2031, reinforcing Europe’s renewable energy supply. It was a great opportunity to give our contribution to the “High-level Conference on Advancing Connectivity: Fostering Interconnection Capacities and EU Integration of the Eastern Partnership” held in Rome last week and organized by Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), where several organizations of the Energy industry from Central, Southern and Eastern Europe gathered to discuss about status and development opportunities of regional power interconnections. To speed up the decarbonization process in Europe, it will be compulsory to integrate EU renewable resources with those in bordering regions. This strategy requires the development of vast interconnection projects which, in turn, require large-scale investments, technological evolution, and the development of new business models. CESI SpA is closely collaborating with private and institutional project Promoters to conduct feasibility studies that help identifying the most appropriate technical and technological solutions, the environmental impact and the economic and financial characteristics, including the definition of possible business models and funding schemes for the power interconnector, do not hesitate to reach out!

The journey toward a sustainable energy future is accelerating, driven by technological advancements and new interconnections between economic systems. At the heart of this transition is network infrastructure, essential for linking energy demand with the regions producing the most renewable power. Offshore wind energy plays a key role, with the EU projecting up to 450 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050 to limit global temperature rise. But as renewable energy increases, the challenges grow. Long transmission distances, complex weather conditions, and the need for advanced technology like HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) make the path forward more complex. HVDC solutions, such as submarine cables, offer a more resilient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional AC lines.
