Based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health & University of Konstanz. Humane Science = the best science
Info
Since its establishment in 1981 with a $1 million grant from the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association, the Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) has been pioneering humane science and alternatives to animal testing. Today, CAAT is a world leader in the development and use of new approach methods in biomedical research, product safety testing, and education. CAAT seeks to effect change by working with scientists in industry, government, and academia to find new ways to replace animals with non-animal methods, reduce the numbers of animals necessary, or refine methods to make them less painful or stressful to the animals involved. In 2010, CAAT became the first transatlantic competence center in the field of alternatives with the establishment of CAAT-Europe at the University of Konstanz, Germany. Since then, CAAT and CAAT-Europe have brought together stakeholders from the US and Europe to forge consensus, harmonize policy, and drive scientific innovation.

The ways in which our environment affects us, and in which we affect our environment, are complex. To better study these interactions, the field of exposomics was born. CAAT and the Bloomberg School of Public Health are proud to announce the Exposome Moonshot Forum, an event that will bring experts and stakeholders together to drive the exposomics conversation. This event, which will be held from May 12th to May 16th, 2025, is actively looking for stakeholders. If you or someone you know is interested, we invite you to complete the Exposome Moonshot Forum Stakeholder Identification Survey by visiting: https://lnkd.in/g2uJvX_7 To learn more about the forum, please visit: https://lnkd.in/g7VvycyV #CAAT #JHU #Exposome #ExposomeMoonshotForum #3Rs #Research #HumaneScience #STEM

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), and the Animal Protection Commissioner of Berlin are launching a new Animal-Free Workshop Series for Early Career Researchers: free, online workshops that will provide a forum for early career researchers to learn about innovative nonanimal methods and gain practical career development skills. Registration is now open for Workshop No. 1: Understanding Translatability and Crafting Competitive Grant Applications on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 10 am ET/4 pm CET on Zoom. The Workshop will feature Jarrod Bailey, PhD, Director of Medical Research at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, who will explain how human-focused research provides greater clinical benefits, due to greater biological similarity and specificity of human-based methods, and Angela Hvitved, PhD, Program Director at the Alternatives Research & Development Foundation, who will provide an overview of funding opportunities for nonanimal research methods and practical tips for crafting a strong proposal that is tailored to the target funding opportunity. Organoids are synthetic models of human organs that can mimic the function of those organs, allowing for, among other things, toxicology testing without using animal subjects. If you’d like to learn more about the development and potential of organoids, we invite you to join us for our panel discussion at BMES 2024, where CAAT’s Dr. Itzy E. Morales Pantoja will be talking about brain organoids. We hope to see you there!
