Discover CEEZER's project developers: HeavyFinance 👩🌾 HeavyFinance is a climate tech company dedicated to removing one gigaton of CO2e emissions by transforming agricultural practices across Europe through carbon farming programs in Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine. With over 500,000 hectares of land already enrolled, HeavyFinance connects investors with farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture and generating nature-based carbon credits. HeavyFinance’s on-farm team of agronomists provides technical assistance and supports farmers in the implementation of sustainable practices. Recognizing soil as a major carbon sink, HeavyFinance focuses on enabling farmers to adopt regenerative practices that improve soil health and sequester carbon such as no-till or reduced tillage, reduced use of fertilizers, crop rotation, or cover crops practices. This not only enhances soil fertility but also contributes significantly to global climate change mitigation. By facilitating green financing, HeavyFinance helps farmers implement sustainable methods and generate additional income through the sale of high-quality carbon credits. Discover CEEZER's project developers: Relief International 🇬🇭 Relief International is an international non-profit organization that partners with communities impacted by conflict, climate change, and disaster to save lives, build greater resilience, and promote long-term health and well-being. Their Gyapa™ Project is the largest fuel-efficient cookstove program in Ghana, with over 2.6 million stoves sold to low-income households to date. The Gyapa™ stove is 100% manufactured in Ghana from local clays and scrap metal, employing over 700 local Ghanaian women and men. The Gyapa™ stove cooks food faster and more safely, using half the fuel when compared with traditional stoves. The stove costs under $10 and households save an average of $120 a year in cash fuel costs, giving the stove an impressive payback period of about one month. The Gyapa™ project has completed nine performance reviews under the Gold Standard. Clean cookstove projects have been a popular choice for carbon credit buyers, due to their contribution to sustainable development and demonstrable need for carbon finance to achieve emission reductions. However, this project type has faced scrutiny regarding the accuracy of its emissions reduction calculations. Gyapa™, being among the highest-rated cookstove projects by BeZero Carbon, mitigates this risk through ongoing field usage surveys and by tailoring solutions to the specific needs and contexts of communities. Ann Koontz, Senior Advisor for Relief International, who has been with the project since its inception notes, “The Gyapa™ project invests carbon financing to maintain a high-quality stove at an affordable price. Consumers use their hard-earned cash to purchase a Gyapa stove which produces high and consistent usage rates for Gyapa™ and empowers the consumers to provide continuous feedback on the stove so it meets their cooking needs. We are pleased to be partnering with CEEZER to offer Gyapa™ carbon credits”

Companies in the process industries find themselves confronted with a daring challenge: Decarbonize quickly while continuing to deliver on complex, emission-heavy processes. The role of #CDR and #CCS, however, is far from straightforward. Is it better to invest in carbon capture technology within the supply chain or should CDR and CCS be purchased externally to accelerate the reductions of hard-to-abate emissions? ➡️ The interesting bit: Both approaches offer huge opportunities. 🎤 Join Magnus Drewelies, CEEZER, and Dr. Lilia Stratz, EY Climate & Decarbonization, at ACHEMA 2024 in Frankfurt this Friday. 📢 Session: "CCS and CDR as complementary measures of decarbonization" 🗓️ 14.06.2024, 10:30 📍 Green Innovation Stage, Achema, Messe Frankfurt Don’t miss out on connecting with Friedrich Köser for in-depth discussions on negative emissions in the chemical industry. #Achema2024 #Decarbonization #CDR #ClimateAction #CCS

Government backing does not guarantee impact - especially in the carbon markets. A recent investigation by ZDF's Frontal exposed a troubling practice: German oil companies used fake projects from China to fulfill their climate obligations. Just one example of many: €80 million were paid for an alleged climate protection project in a Chinese Uyghur province, which upon inspection turned out to be an abandoned chicken coop. This exposé on fraudulent Upstream Emissions Reduction (UER) projects in China raises concerns, but it's important to differentiate between compliance markets that include UERs and the voluntary carbon market (VCM). Read our blog post by Senior Impact Manager Lucas van Doorn to learn more about why compliance markets are not watertight, what lessons can be derived for buyers of voluntary carbon credits and how to effectively navigate carbon market risk. https://lnkd.in/ex3H7t5W

🌍 The 2024 State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Report is out! 🌍 The latest report, led by the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford, makes it clear that we need to scale up Carbon Dioxide Removal to meet the Paris Agreement goals. Here are some key insights: 📌 Targets: By mid-century, we need to be able to remove 7-9 billion tonnes of CO2 sustainably each year to achieve the 1.5°C target. Currently, we're only removing 2 billion tonnes per year, primarily through conventional methods like afforestation and reforestation. 🔬 Innovative Methods: Emerging CDR techniques like biochar, enhanced rock weathering, #DACCS, and #BECCS currently contribute just 1.3 million tonnes annually, which is less than 0.1% of total CO2 removal. We need to scale these diverse methods to close the gap. 📈 Policy and Investment: Despite rapid growth in research and public awareness, there’s been a slowdown in development. Investment in CDR needs to increase significantly, with current funding for CDR representing just 1.1% of investment in climate-tech start-ups. Strong government policies and support are crucial to drive this growth. 🔍 Monitoring and Verification: Improved monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems are vital for scaling CDR sustainably. Embedding CDR policies into national climate plans and developing robust MRV frameworks will help ensure the credibility and effectiveness of these efforts. 💡 Voluntary Carbon Market (#VCM): The VCM plays a key role in scaling CDR solutions. Despite some challenges, the VCM has seen a significant increase in demand for carbon removal credits, with quality-oriented, removals-focused purchases growing nearly five-fold from 2021 to 2023. At CEEZER, we’ve noticed this too: a notable increase in removal transactions on our platform. The VCM is key to driving the growth of durable carbon removal solutions needed to meet global climate targets! Want to know more? Check out detailed insights and information on the future of CDR in the full report (link in comments). #ClimateAction #CDR #CarbonRemoval #VCM #ClimateChange
