🚀 It’s official! We are thrilled to announce our investment in Black Semiconductor, accelerating European technological sovereignty Black Semiconductor, which is developing a new kind of chip-connecting technology based on graphene, has raised a Series A round of EUR 254.4m, in a combination of private and public funding. The sum is one of the largest to date raised by a European startup working in semiconductors. Black Semiconductor is a spin-out from the University of Aachen co-founded by the brothers Daniel Schall and Sebastian Schall. The German federal government and the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia commit EUR 228.7m in funding to drive a new generation of chips developed by Black Semiconductor. The company has also secured EUR 25.7m in equity funding from Capnamic and our fellow investors Porsche Ventures, Project A, Scania Growth, TVF | TechVision Fonds, NRW.BANK as well as the existing investors Vsquared Ventures, Cambium Capital Management and Onsight Ventures. 🤖 With the funding, Black Semiconductor is positioned to enable the first semiconductor mass production based on the material graphene. This is an important step towards developing the semiconductor value chain in Europe, enhancing the continent’s technological sovereignty. The capital injection facilitates product development, along with graphene production in Europe and the creation of new high-tech jobs in Aachen, Germany. 🥪 ☕ Ever wondered what an innovative brunch looks like? Last week's event from Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf & ITONICS was a prime example!   Capnamic's Markus Merz was part of the Innovation Brunch hosted by Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf and ITONICS - The Innovation OS with 40 other participants. Markus had the privilege to hold a presentation about AI from a VC's perspective. A key takeaway was that while 90% of pitch decks currently mention AI, a deep understanding is often lacking.
