On to our next #BrenntagPioneers candidate, German Torres, who manages the strategy execution and operations in Latin America as President Brenntag Essentials. When German joined Brenntag over 14 years ago and was responsible for the strategic sourcing activities in Latin America, he brought many years of experience from positions at leading chemical manufacturers to us. As President LATAM today, German sees the rising demand for chemical distributors in the region and the immense opportunities our industry offers: “We are in a unique position to grow and expand our offering. Over the last years we have transformed Brenntag in Latin America in several aspects, including our IT infrastructure, safety performance as well as training and educating our people on our ‘Strategy to Win’ and its execution.” In line with his people-oriented leadership style he shares: “I am continuously pursuing excellence for myself, and I also demand it from my team. And the value of Care is the basis for everything. In all transformational phases, we have been communicating with clarity, making difficult decisions by upholding our care, excellence and safety values. Coherency in process discipline is a best practice I can share from my experience.” This discipline manifested in great project outcomes for German and his team: “The most impactful project milestone was the implementation of a single ERP as well as CRM for the whole Latin America region some years ago. Can a circular approach for industrial packaging reduce tons of CO2 emissions in #ChemicalDistribution? Packaging must be safe, ecological, and compliant with rules and guidelines. At Brenntag, we work closely with our suppliers and customers to establish a circular economy to reduce and reuse packaging. Cleaned and reused intermediate bulk containers, steel drums, steel-lid drums and polyethylene drums, can be used to reduce emissions related to packaging production. This approach enabled our teams in Germany to save about 2,700 tons of CO2 emissions and around 680 tons of emissions in the Netherlands in one year. In chemical distribution, trucks are on the road worldwide to deliver essential or system-critical chemicals and ingredients to customers. In order to make our distribution process more sustainable and reduce our absolute CO2 emissions, a key aspect of our ESG strategy is to replace our corporate fleet with low-carbon alternatives to support our sustainability goals. In cases where using an electric or hydrogen-powered truck is neither economically nor technically feasible, deploying alternative fuels, like biodiesel is a great solution for continued CO2 reduction. Our #BrenntagPioneers series continues with Bernard THian. As Regional Sales & Industry Market Manager he contributes with his technical and commercial support to the growth of the Wax and Polymers business in our Asia Pacific region. Bernard joined Brenntag seven years ago via the acquisition of the specialties provider EPChem, a move that grew and strengthened Brenntag’s specialties presence in APAC. About his responsibilities he shares: “I support the business in various countries, including Singapore and China. In close cooperation with the technical team, we create additional value for customers and suppliers by providing tailored formulations and innovative solutions.” He adds: “Sustainability has gained traction in Asia and Brenntag is gearing towards that direction.” Reflecting on Brenntag’s core values, Bernard shares: “The core values of Brenntag have become part of my private life. At work, trust is the most important value for me. Trust doesn’t come overnight but rather has to be built over time. Brenntag has earned a strong reputation as a reliable partner in the chemical distribution industry, and I strive to embody that same trust when visiting customers, knowing that I am representing Brenntag as an ambassador.” When it comes to overcoming challenges, he emphasizes the importance of teamwork: “Challenges help us grow into a stronger team.
