S u s t a i n a b i l i t y The "Vert" project, debuting at the London Design Festival, is a modular timber trellis designed to tackle urban heating. Developed by Stefan Diez’s studio, AHEC, and OMCoC, it features red oak glulam structures supporting climbing plants. These plants cool urban spaces, fix CO2, and enhance biodiversity. The design showcases sustainable materials and aims to inspire greener urban planning. Vert's construction from red oak, an underused but sustainable hardwood, highlights its structural benefits and potential in eco-friendly architecture. B G, along with the Swiss company neue Holzbau AG, provided essential expertise in engineering and manufacturing complex timber structures for the Vert project. Our role was to ensure the structural integrity and performance of the red oak glulam used in the design, contributing to its innovative approach to #urban #greening and #sustainability. We are happy to share with you an extract from Franck Boutté's post, translated into English: "Tuesday 30 July marked the start of the badminton events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle! We're proud of this fine project, whose design and construction reflect a strong environmental dimension: in-depth analyses of energy needs and consumption, the carbon impact of energy and materials, water conservation, special landscaping as part of an approach to reducing urban heat islands and improving thermal comfort... The result is a project certified to NF HQE Equipements Sportifs level Excellent, and awarded the E3C1 and Biosourcé 3 labels 🥇". A warm thank you to Atelier Franck Boutté, SCAU, NP2F, Ville de Paris, and Société de Livraison des Ouvrages Olympiques - SOLIDEO, with whom we worked alongside as structure and façade engineers. #JO2024 #Paris #France #Sport #Engineering

A r t w o r k The video of Le Baron Gris's inauguration has been released. Nicolas Milhé's Artwork is now on display in the new Amédée Saint Germain area of #Bordeaux, in the southwest of France. We provided our expertise in structural engineering for the project, including the structural anchors to the building. We collaborated with Fonds Cré'Atlantique and the craftsmen Sylvain Latizeau, La Nouvelle Agence, Fonderie Fusions, Métoplast, and Mohand Art. #France #Art #Engineering
S y m p o s i u m If you want to be part of a workshop bridging the gap between theory and praxis by developing resource-conscious designs with real-world workflows, join us at #DMSKassel on 14 and 15 September! We will be delivering a hybrid of masterclass and hackathon-style workshop alongside Karamba3D and Speckle. The goal? To challenge you to reimagine resources and design processes while applying practical design techniques. What it will be about: - Reimagining that our resources for construction are not infinite - Leveraging Grasshopper, Karamba, and Speckle to design and optimise a structure - Using Speckle as a material bank to reuse existing local construction elements - Negotiating for the available material resources - Enhancing Speckle's capability for collaboration - Providing data-centric feedback for costs with Speckle.Automate - Presenting your design and ideas Is this something you’d like to be part of? R e p o s t We took part in Arch_Manu's Hackathon! Take a look at the details below ⬇️
Can the architectural industry save itself from...itself? We teamed up with fellow architecture firms Grimshaw, Cox Architecture, Tzannes and Bollinger Grohmann in Arch_Manu’s Hackathon, to answer that question. Architecture is an age-old profession facing modern challenges. As manufacturing technologies have evolved, our delivery processes haven’t always evolved with them. Now in 2024, we’re facing a perfect storm between the climate crisis, cost and automation which ‘business as usual’ can't solve on its own. The hackathon initiative has been established by the Australian Research Council's Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing [Arch_Manu] to drive innovation in the architecture and engineering fields. Over a day, 20 participants representing industry and academia were divided into four teams to explore digital solutions to industry challenges. The program represents a sliver of the real life, cross-industry collaboration required for the future of architecture to meet global challenges. Our team, led by Steve Fox and Gavin Crump investigated the disconnect between designers and fabricators in the industry. Can we streamline our documentation processes with more collaborative digital tools? Our proposal was a hypothetical software that both fabricators and architects could use during design development for early contractor engagement. Supporting the growing needs for ‘Design for manufacture and assembly’ (DfMA) by reducing abortive work, construction errors and program delays. Architectus’ Digital Lead, Gavin Crump reflects, “It's quite rare in architectural practice to get the chance to openly collaborate, free of intellectual property hurdles. I greatly enjoyed the chance to collaborate with Grimshaw and the Phd candidates to develop a proposal for a future platform that better connects designers and fabricators. Watch this space, it's just getting started.” Thanks for hosting us Arch_Manu [ARC Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing] We can’t wait to apply this thought leadership to our practices. Thank you to partners UNSW, Swinburne University of Technology and University of Adelaide for supporting our future industries. #futureofarchitecture #digitalarchitecture #architectureresearch #innovation #collaboration #dfma #sustainablefuture #Australianresearchcouncil #innovationinarchitecture
