#Robots support doctors with #ultrasound. Nassir Navab, professor Technische Universität München relies on #robotic ultrasound systems for routine examinations. According to his research, these systems are a great relief for doctors in their everyday work. 🩺🥼 As the #RoboticSystems can carry out routine examinations autonomously, they might deliver medical assistance in places, where specialist doctors are not available – for example on ships, in space or on isolated islands. Today we celebrate international #SpaceExplorationDay. #Robots need more #space 🤖🌌 🌠! Since the beginning of space travel, #robots played an important role in its development. From collecting samples to supporting astronauts – let us introduce you to some important #robotic helpers in outer space: 1️⃣ Perseverance by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is exploring Mars. The robot is searching for signs of life and collecting ground samples. 2️⃣ CIMON by Airbus is helping astronauts on the ISS. The robot interacts with the crew and answers their questions. 3️⃣ GLIMPSE by ETH Zürich seems at first glimpse like a toy. The robot dog is meant to find out more about the south polar region of our moon. 4️⃣ OSAM-1 by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration has the goal to make satellite missions more sustainable. The robot will provide satellites with new fuel. 5️⃣ R5 aka Valkyrie was created by Johnson Space Center. But until now also NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the The University of Edinburgh have contributed to the robot's development. R5 is an assistant for a wide range of tasks of astronauts. #robotics #robots #spaceexploration #automatica

New hopes in #cardiology are raised by an innovative #heartmonitor. #Robotics are often inspired by nature and nature's unique system. In this case, the prototype of the heart monitor was designed according to the structure of the ears of sea turtles. These are very sensitive to vibrations and other low-frequency signals – they can detect sound and vibrations directly through their skin, thus they are able to detect low-frequency signals, e.g. in the 300- to 400-hertz range. As heart sounds are also heard on a low frequency, this captivated the attention of researchers at the North University of China. Based on the sea turtle's inner structure, the research team created a new #medicaldevice in the form of a sensor for remote monitoring. The ultimate aim is to reduce the need for visits to the specialist and constantly monitor #cardiac activity. For today's news, we are diving into the spheres of robot priests. What's the story behind that? As robots and potential use cases are being tested all across the globe, some engineers came up with the idea to combine #NewTechnology with #spirituality:They created a #robot priest called Mindar 🤖🙏. Mindar's goal is to encourage buddhism and give an introduction. The robot resembles a Buddhist goddess and is one of the main attractions in a 400-year-old temple in Kyoto, Japan. Researchers from the University of Cambridge have developed new wearable #sensors inspired by spider silk 🕷️🕸️ 📡 Interested in having the same spidey senses as your friendly neighboorhood Spider-Man? These sensors are so thin and lightweight that they can be printed on almost every organic structure, whether it's a petal or human skin. They could for example help with #healthmonitoring of animals or humans without disturbing the user. The #WearableTech can be printed #ecofriendly with #3Dprinters.
