Recently, Rescale's Mark Fieldhouse attended the AI & Data-driven Simulation Forum (ASCS) in Germany, where Rescale had a significant presence. The event was a fantastic platform to engage with industry leaders and innovators in the computational science community. Mark participated in a panel discussion on the convergence of AI with simulation, sharing insights on how AI is enhancing our HPC solutions. It was a rewarding experience, allowing us to connect with professionals and exchange valuable ideas about the future of AI in cloud computing and high-performance computing (HPC). Mark had great conversations with keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Patrick Glauner about how AI will benefit companies that embrace it company-wide. They observed that while the impending EU AI Act might initially inhibit adoption due to its more stringent framework, other global regions are adopting different approaches, focusing on more flexible and adaptive frameworks that could potentially foster quicker integration and wider adoption of AI technologies. Mark and Patrick agreed that companies enabling every employee to use AI will be the most successful. They also discussed the cost and investment vs. the benefit, concluding that the investment in AI is worth it. Rescale's booth attracted diverse attendees eager to learn how our platform can optimize their computational workflows. The discussions around AI and its role in advancing simulation underscored the growing interest in this area. Overall, the ASCS event was a resounding success for Rescale, reinforcing our position as a leader in HPC and cloud computing. //KI und Simulation – Safety First!// Letzte Woche fand eine äußerst spannende Veranstaltung mit Experten der KI- und Automobilbranche beim ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulation (ASCS) statt. Beim Panel „Game-Changer Simulation: KI und datengetriebene Simulation für ADAS & AD“ betonte Frank Köster vom DLR Institut für KI-Sicherheit, was während Entwicklung und Betrieb einer vertrauenswürdigen und sicheren KI zu gewährleisten ist: ein adäquater Schutz vor äußeren Angriffen (Security) und eine extrem hohe Betriebssicherheit (Safety). Dies betrifft eine KI als Teil einer Lösung, aber auch eine KI als Werkzeug bzw. Teil des Engineering-Teams selbst. Über die „Safety and Security by Design“-Philosophie werden beide Sicherheitsaspekte während des gesamten Lebenszyklus von KI-basierten Systemen durch die Ansätze des Instituts für KI-Sicherheit garantiert – gerade auch für hohe Automatisierungsgrade. Weitere wichtige Punkte: - Kontinuierliche kritische Reflexion der Sicherheit und Zuverlässigkeit ist unerlässlich. - KI ist die Super-Power in datenzentrierten Anwendungen. - Menschliche Aufsicht muss gewährleistet sein. Der DevOps-Ansatz, der im DLR umgesetzt wird, verbindet bruchlos die Entwicklung (Dev) und den Betrieb (Ops) einer KI-basierten Lösung und spielt zudem eine große Rolle bei der (Weiter-) Entwicklung von KI-Systemen. Jede Entwicklungsphase wird adäquat abgesichert, um Sicherheitsrisiken zuverlässig erkennen und handhaben zu können. Zusammen mit Johannes Betz von der Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich), Bhasit khan von Automotive Artificial Intelligence (AAI) GmbH und Andreas Lauringer von Kontrol bot das Panel spannende Einblicke in die Integration von KI und Simulation aus verschiedenen Perspektiven. Zum Abschluss betonte Frank Köster die Notwendigkeit im Automotive-Umfeld datenbasiert zu kooperieren und kollaborieren. Daten- und Dienste-Ökosysteme aus Initiativen wie Catena-X und #GX4FM Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility (#BaseX) liefern hierzu wichtige Grundlagen und erste praxisrelevante Anwendungen. Die bereits etablierten ASAM e.V. - Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems Open-X-Standards sowie weitere ASAM-Standards, fördern zudem eine integrationsfähige Repräsentation der Daten. Wird KI die Simulation in Zukunft komplett ersetzen ? ... dieser Vision wollte niemand so richtig zustimmen auf der spannenden Veranstaltung "AI and Data-driven Simulation Forum" des ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulation am vergangenen Mittwoch Abend in Böblingen, bei der ich eingeladen war zusammen mit Maria Büttner und Andreas Krieg von der TECOSIM Group. Aber wir müssen die Möglichkeiten von KI ausloten, Anwendungen identifizieren ... wer diese Potentiale verschläft, wird abgehängt ... da waren sich dann doch alle einig 👍 Aber wie genau ? Prof. Dr. Patrick Glauner hatte zum Einstieg bereits einige Impulse in seiner inspirierenden Keynote gegeben. Die Beschleunigung von Simulationen, indem man ein Meta-Modell mit Ergebnissen früherer Simulationen trainiert bis hin zum Forschungsobjekt der GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks), die auf scheinbar kreative Art und Weise neue Daten generieren ... aber wie genau setzen wir das ein in unserer Simulations-getriebenen Produkt-Entwicklung ? Das ist die Hausaufgabe, die wir alle von diesem gelungenen Abend mitnehmen 💡 Drei wichtige Impulse habe ich aus der anschließenden von Christoph Gümbel moderierten Panel-Diskussion mitgenommen: ⭐ Ohne Einsatz von KI werden wir nicht wettbewerbsfähig bleiben ⭐ Unternehmen brauchen eine KI-Strategie ⭐ Das KI-Wissen muss auf breiter Ebene im Unternehmen verteilt werden Vielen Dank besonders an Alexander F. Walser und Egon Wiedekind für die Organisation dieses sehr kurzweiligen Abends. Die inspirierende Location mit hervorragendem Catering hat zum Austausch eingeladen und zu später Stunde erlebten wir dann noch die Preisverleihung im Carrera-Rennen sowie den Einzug von England ins EM-Finale ... gemäß der Bewertung zum Abschied im Stile von Egon Wiedekind: Alle vier Smileys genau ins Zentrum 👍 #simulation #ki #tecosim

Wir hatten diesen Mittwoch eine sehr spannende Runde mit herausragenden Köpfen der KI und Automotive Branche, beim ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulation und Game Changer Simulation Event in Böblingen. 🚘 Los ging es mit einer packenden Keynote von Prof. Dr. Patrick Glauner. Aus der CADFEM Group hat Dr. Kevin Cremanns von der PI Probaligence GmbH interessante Einblicke in die neuesten Entwicklungen gegeben. 👨💻 🧠 Und auch die kurzweiligen Panels u.a. mit Christoph Gümbel, Marco Lanfrit und Andreas Lauringer haben sich wieder einmal sehr gelohnt. 👨🏫 Danke auch an die Organisatoren, vor allem Alexander F. 🌟 Recap: A Night of Insightful Discussions on AI and Simulation 🌟 On July 10th, 2024 I was honored to be part of a dynamic panel discussion at the ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulation evening event. With over 70 participants, the event brought together a wealth of knowledge, ideas, and solutions centered around AI and simulation. Expert Panelists: The discussion featured leading experts from automotive industry Technical University of Munich (Johannes Betz), German Aerospace Center (DLR) (Frank Köster), Kontrol (Andreas Lauringer). Diverse Perspectives: Each panelist brought unique insights on the integration of AI and simulation, discussing the challenges and opportunities in the automotive industry. In-Depth Dialogue: Topics ranged from technological advancements and implementation strategies to the economic and societal impacts of AI-driven simulation. I, filling on for Intakhab Khan and representing Automotive Artificial Intelligence (AAI) GmbH, contributed valuable insights on the integration of AI and simulation, highlighting our latest advancements and the future of the industry. Mainly focusing on the need to invest in digital twins following ASAM e.V. standards. Thank you to the ASCS e.V. and Egon Wiedekind for organizing such a thought-provoking event and bringing together leading minds in the field. A big thanks to ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulation for organizing the forum on AI & Data Driven Simulation in Böblingen. It was good to connect again with friends & family. Many ASAM e.V. members were present and the ones who exhibited, of course, received the "famous" ASAM cube for their booths: Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika), 3D Mapping Solutions GmbH, HLRS - High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart, CADFEM (D-A-CH). The presentations and discussions around AI were full of insights, and I was also glad to see a member of the ASAM Board of Directors, Frank Köster, on stage. A guarantee that standards were part of the solutions that have been discussed.

Yesterday, Thursday evening, I had the honor of participating in a panel on the topic of AI in the field of CAE simulation organized by the ASCS e.V. - Automotive Solution Center for Simulationand the Game Changer Simulation. We discussed the current potential of AI for the development process. The focus was on how the use of AI can be driven forward in order to stay ahead of the global competition. For me, the bottom line from the discussion is that we need to increase the value of AI through an intensive exchange of ideas and experiences, as we did at yesterday's event. It is not enough for a technology to be great and impressive, it is as always about the 3 essential value drivers: time, cost and quality. This reminds me very much of the time 20-25 years ago, when simulation was in its infancy and struggled for acceptance. Today simulation is definitely an integral part of modern development processes across all industries. I am sure that this will and must happen much faster with AI. It is up to each individual and each organization to seize the opportunity and engage with the topic. Thanks again to Alexander F. Walser and Egon Wiedekind for organizing the event. Also thanks to Christoph Gümbel for the goal-oriented moderation and of course to my fellow colleagues on the panel. Thanks also to Prof. Dr. Patrick Glauner for a very inspiring keynote.
