It was an honor to host outgoing U.S. Consul General Timothy Liston from the U.S. Consulate General Munich at a special Farewell Reception yesterday at the Rosewood Hotel - Brasserie Cuvilliés in Munich. In addition to introductory remarks by Claudia Donzelmann, we talked with Sebastian Stolz, General Manager of the Munich Ravens, about sports diplomacy and the contributions that the National Football League (NFL) and European Football League (EFL) make in deepening transatlantic ties. Other topics of discussion throughout the evening included transatlantic relations in light of current geopolitical challenges as well as the United States after the 2024 presidential election. As a small token of our appreciation, we presented Consul General Liston with a photo momento for his future office in San Antonio, Texas. We wish outgoing U.S. Consul General Timothy Liston all the best for his future endeavors and look forward to continuing our close cooperation with the U.S. Consulate General in Munich!

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday in Berlin for an engaging panel discussion on "Challenges & Opportunities for the Circular Economy: Recommerce," followed by a Fourth of July barbecue and farewell reception for Woodward Clark Price, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin. The event was a resounding success, bringing together thought leaders and experts to discuss the vital role of recommerce and circular economy in promoting sustainability and economic efficiency. The evening was kicked off with Introductory Remarks from Dr. Saskia Meier-Andrae (General Manager, eBay Deutschland) and Inken Carina Sittler (BDI-Initative Circular Economy) As Dr. Meier-Andrae points out: "eBay is a global brand, an icon of the Internet culture. Wherever we are, we connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all. We do this by providing local sellers with global markets. We thank AmCham for the great cooperation in the spirit of what unites us: the confident belief in the power of transatlantic cooperation." In the expert-driven panel which followed, we also welcomed additional speakers Kim Cheng, Gunda Rachut (Chair, Foundation Central Packaging Register), Judith Sandra Skudelny (Member of the German Parliament, FDP), Anahita Thoms (Partner, Baker McKenzie), and our moderator Prof. Dr. Torsten Oltmanns (Regional Chapter Chair for Berlin-Brandenburg). Furthermore, our guests had the opportunity to gain insights from Paul Jonas (Founder & CEO, Revive GmbH). At the ensuing Independence Day Celebration, our General Manager Daniel Andrich bid farewell to Woodward Clark Price, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy Berlin, whose contributions to German-American relations and our organization over the years are greatly appreciated. It was great to exchange insights on transatlantic trade, economic security and investment conditions in Germany with Dr. Sandra Detzer, MdB and Economic Policy Spokesperson for BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN, this afternoon in Berlin. As Dr. Detzer emphasizes: "In the first quarter of this year, the U.S. has become Germany's number one trading partner in the world – trading goods worth more than 63 billion Euros from January to March. This is proof for the ongoing depth and importance of our transatlantic partnership, which remains the key to prosperity and freedom in Europe." Thanks for taking the time to meet with us! #TradeMatters #TransatlanticRelations Daniel Andrich

There's no occasion like the Fourth of July to celebrate transatlantic relations and German-American friendship! 🇺🇸🇩🇪 We may have been a few days early, but Monday’s Independence Day Celebration at the Schlosshotel Kronberg - Hotel Frankfurt was the perfect combination of great networking, great food and speeches! We had the honor of hosting Jennifer Walsh, Acting Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt, for keynote remarks on the importance of value-based German-American relations in times of geopolitical upheaval. Our members and guests also heard remarks from our Regional Chapter Chairs Gabriele Haessig and David Knower, our General Manager Daniel Andrich, as well as Dr. Joachim Dr. Heine (Managing Partner Frankfurt, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP), with whom we also had the pleasure of celebrating Morgan Lewis' 35th anniversary in Germany. Moreover, in keeping with the evening's U.S. theme, we had the honor of welcoming the MSG Detachment Frankfurt of the United States Marine Corps for a special Flag Ceremony. A big thank you to all our speakers, members and guests for a great evening. In particular, we’d like to extend our gratitude to our cooperation partner Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, represented by Joachim Dr. Heine and Dr. Christian Zschocke, and to our Silver Sponsor Wertheim Village without whom our event would not have been possible! We need a RESTART for Germany's competitiveness! 🇩🇪💪 Check out our newly released position paper for policy recommendations in key areas to RESTART Germany’s competitiveness from a transatlantic perspective: 🏭 R - Reforms 🍃 E - Energy ⚖️ S - Standards 💶 T - Tax 🤝 A - Alliances 🔗 R - Resilience 🚢 T - Trade Germany has been experiencing significant industrial changes for years, yet it remains Europe's largest economy. Our Transatlantic Business Barometer 2024, conducted together with Roland Berger, shows U.S. companies in Germany rate workforce quality, R&D and sales market potential highly. However, only about one-third find overall business conditions favorable. Negative factors include high energy costs, poor economic and industrial policy, digital infrastructure and investment planning difficulties. These issues threaten Germany's global competitiveness, economic growth and long-term prosperity, risking societal trust in the market economy and democracy. Political recognition of businesses' economic and social contributions is crucial. This is why Germany needs a competitive RESTART. A big thank you to the Wirtschaftsrat der CDU e.V. for focusing on transatlantic trade and business relations at last week's "Internationaler Kreis" in Berlin. Together with our President Simone Menne, Tilman Kuban, MdB, Alexander Radwan, MdB, Stephen Anderson, U.S. Embassy in Berlin, and Jan-Friedrich Kallmorgen, EY-Parthenon GmbH, we discussed the many challenges - but also opportunities - facing Germany and the U.S. As our President Simone Menne states: "In the 2024 super election year, it’s more important than ever that we defend the democratic values which have allowed the transatlantic economy to prosper. The German-American business story is one of success. However, as this year’s Transatlantic Business Barometer shows: There are storm clouds on the horizon, and Germany cannot rest on its laurels. Instead, all of us must work together to deepen our cooperation and make our partnership fit for the future." Thanks again for having us! (Photo Credit: Wirtschaftsrat der CDU e.V.)

Today, our Aerospace and Defense Committee had the opportunity to meet with Alexander Müller from the FDP-Bundestagsfraktion. The discussions were focused on the current challenges facing the defense industry in Germany and Europe. Alexander Müller emphasized: "The defense industry in Germany and Europe faces enormous challenges: Within a few years, the deficits of decades have to be recovered. We have to get our production lines back on track and expand capacities while maintaining our successful market-oriented liberal model. With our recently published liberal paper, we designed several measures on how to strengthen the arms and defense industries in Europe, e.g., through easier access to loans, accelerating and minimizing bureaucratic procedures, facilitating access to raw materials, and overhauling the legislation on arms exports." We extend our sincere gratitude to Alexander Müller for his valuable insights. Special thanks are also owed to our Aerospace & Defense Committee Chairs, Dr. Elisabeth Hauschild and Jim Monroe, for their opening remarks and skillful moderation. #TransatlanticRelations #DefensePolicy #InternationalSecurity #Security
