75 years of living #values and #democracy!   Today, we are celebrating an important anniversary together in Germany: The Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany turns 75!   It is the foundation for our free and democratic constitutional state with #dignity, #respect and individual #freedom as the pillars on which we build. That is also what our corporate values at ALTANA AG – appreciation, openness, empowerment to act and trust – reflect on.   Our constitution gives us freedom and assigns responsibility at the same time, a combination that enables us to operate in a social market economy in which innovation and entrepreneurial spirit thrive. It gives us the framework within which ALTANA, as a global player in the specialty chemical industry, pursues sustainable profitable growth.   The constitution also underscores our responsibility to society and the environment and motivates us to place sustainability and ethical behavior at the center of our business activities. “Who will actually do the jobs tomorrow?” This question is the focus of this year's first German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Day – and it is also a question that we are working on at ALTANA. As a specialty chemicals company, we work on highly innovative solutions. That requires a lot of expertise and qualified employees. At the same time, we face massive changes in the way we work. Processes become more and more digital. Therefore, we need specialists with digital expertise – experts who are in demand in all sectors. At a time when technological advances and demographic changes are rapidly reshaping the work environment, we need to ask ourselves how we as a company can address these challenges. At ALTANA AG, we firmly believe that the key to answering this question lies in developing and investing in our employees. Training and upskilling our workforce is a top priority for us, as this is the only way to ensure that we can continue to meet the demands of the future market. We are committed to developing talents and creating a framework in which lifelong learning is not only possible, but a necessity. However, it is crucial in this context that we do not only invest in the qualifications of our existing employees. We also have to engage with future employees. A valuable year for ALTANA AG! As discussed in our Annual Press Conference today: 2023 was a year of challenges, but also one in which we courageously seized opportunities. We made strategic acquisitions, further expanded our research and development, invested heavily in sites and pushed ahead with digitalization. In taking these steps, we have set the course for the future. Predicting the future accurately is becoming increasingly challenging in the face of persistently volatile conditions. But one thing is certain: We also have a well-filled innovation pipeline for 2024 and are continuing to invest heavily in research & development. This is made possible by our financial and innovative strength. I am certain that all these efforts and investments in forward-looking solutions will continue to create value - for our customers, employees, our owner and society as a whole. After all, the major challenges of our time - above all climate protection - require all of our solution expertise. The basis for our innovations is first and foremost the people who work for us – one out of six employees work in research and development.
