This insightful comment, along with the call to action "let’s support diverse business environments to give diverse views a chance to grow powerful ideas,” came from an audience member during the event—it was truly inspirational and worth sharing. Today, the 𝗟𝗠𝗨 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 has 𝑰𝑴𝑷𝑨𝑪𝑻 at its core. But it wasn’t long ago when everything started: "𝘞𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘣𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘴.” - Zarah Bruhn, CEO socialbee gGmbH and Commissioner for Social Innovation, sharing her personal story on how she started an impact startup. She concluded with 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 during her keynote: 1. Securing funding for social enterprises is challenging despite addressing societal issues. 2. Social entrepreneurship needs to be prioritized. 3. Social entrepreneurship brings immense satisfaction. Now, we have an alliance of four universities, exciting panelists, politicians, investors, and lots of students and startups that come together every year for the 𝗟𝗠𝗨 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆. We are already moving the needle in the right direction. But how can we measure the impact we’ve made? How far has the needle moved? This is a research project that Prof. Dr. Ali Aslan Gümüsay is approaching. Why is measuring impact so important? Julian Jantke, Director of the ARC Accelerator & Entrepreneur, shared a powerful insight on true impact: "𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺.” To give you some context: A startup that creates a new diabetes blood test is great, but a simple law that increases taxes on sweets and therefore reduces diabetes in the first place is even greater—impactful and simple. Julian Jantke’s mission aligns with AICU, empowering researchers to create impact. Key takeaways from him: Profit enables broader actions, but systemic change drives greater impact. Unique accelerators succeed by selecting unique, impactful participants. In the end, we need to educate about how impact entrepreneurship works, what it is, and how to approach it. Jelena Spanjol emphasized the role of educators: "𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴.” This is true for professors, teachers, mentors, and advisors. After this beautiful event, it is clear that impact entrepreneurship has come a long way. With different grants, accelerators, and funds focusing on impact startups, politicians making impact their top priority, students working on impactful business plans, and people volunteering like Carsten Gerhardt for the greater good—it’s inspiring to see how impactful ideas can become reality. 😊 At AICU, we see real changemakers every day.
