NEW READING:  Between Hydrocarbons and High Tech:The Gulf Economies at a Crossroad With the shift away from fossil fuels and towards renewable and sustainable sources of energy, the Gulf States are increasingly adapting to western standards but at their own pace particularly in reference to Circular Carbon Economiy. Topic such as Hydrocarbon value chains, Logistics, Tourism, Investment promises and their realization as well as the direct and indirect impact of the Gaza Conflict are core topics of interest for all Gulf States and will without a doubt be discussed during upcoming conferences such as the: 1. Davos in the Desert – Business summit Saudi Arabia (October) 2. BRICS´ - Hosted by Russia and the UAE (October) 3. COP29 – Held in Azerbaijan (November)   What to expect: 1. The Six Gulf States have all launched their own ambitious diversification project, focusing particularly on adapting their hydrocarbon dependent economies. Sectors such as Tourism, Logistics and Artificial Intelligence are expected to be core points of interest.   2. Fueled by the Gaza conflict and a growing divergence on how to address this conflict from the West, Gulf states - even those with positive ties to Israel - have begun seeking out foreign partnership away from Western Allies and towards Russia and China. 3. In an effort to diversify its economies the introduction of “Regional Headquarter Program” in Saudi Arabia as well as Qatar and the UAE seeks out foreign investment. 🗞 NEW READING: How hybrid threats challenge geopolitics AND the economy. In the context of an increasingly interconnected global economy, hybrid threat scenarios are a significant concern for businesses worldwide. These advanced attacks, which are designed to disrupt supply chains, alter market dynamics, and destabilize financial systems, require our immediate attention. Companies should be aware of this: ⚠ Today's states are using non-state actors to carry out sophisticated hybrid attacks that include disinformation, cyberattacks and economic threats. These attacks are often synchronised in order to maximise their impact. This creates a "gray zone" where agile groups evade detection, complicating defense strategies. ⚠ The methods of hybrid attacks have evolved to include combinations of tactics such as 'hack and leak' and simultaneous cyberattacks using ransomware. Non-state actors and commercial enterprises play an important role in this evolving landscape, further blurring the lines and complicating defenses. ✅ To address this, companies must move from reactive to proactive measures, secure their infrastructure, diversify their supply chains, and introduce dynamic monitoring systems. ✅ In addition to the financial costs, hybrid attacks can also damage reputations. Companies must therefore strengthen their protective measures and develop robust crisis communication strategies.
